I've been lurking a while and reading quite a bit on here and wanted to share my first custom knife purchase. I'd been looking for a small EDC fixed blade knife and found the Blind Horse Knives Small Cascade. This was a dealer exclusive at an online knife store that was discontinued and went on clearance. The original listed price was $170 and I got it for $110. These are the specs from from the website: Steel: D2, Thickness: 1/8", OAL: 6.5", Blade: 2.75", Weight: 3.7 oz.
I am not a fan of the sheath the knife came with so I'll be ordering a kydex sheath from one of the members here. What I am a fan of is the fact that out of the box it can make a "fuzz stick" from a strand of hair. The black micarta handle is polished pretty smooth so I may try to use some very fine sandpaper or maybe scotchbrite to give it a little bit of grip. I'm currently in Afghanistan so haven't tried any carving yet. It did slice through a carry strap a co-worker didn't want on his dvd case. The knife went through the doubled up layer of nylon with so little effort that everyone watching sort of gasped.
There's usually someone sleeping in my room around the clock so I won't be able to take any pictures but this is the internet, I'm sure pictures can be found somewhere. Once I get the sheath I plan on wearing it horizontally on my weak side at about 10 o'clock. I have been carrying a BK-11 like that for a few years so I'm pretty comfortable with it. I'll try to find a place to get some pictures once I ship the knife to the sheath maker and get it back.
