Hi everyone, my name is Matt Weber and I'm a working MetalSmith from Arizona. I got the knife bug a few months back and made some knives that I'm seeking advice, opinions, and help on. Working in such a small scale is a nice change for me so any help is appreciated! BTW, my skin is thick so if you think they suck just say so. :p

All these knives were mildly forged to shape first.

The boot knife was my second knife. Its 10" long and made from 5160. The handle is brass, copper, and cocobolo.

The Damascus blade (not my Damascus) is 11" long. The handle is mostly nickle silver with a cast nickle silver pommel. I carved the pommel in wax and cast it.

The last knife was a fun little knife I made just to see how quickly I could do it. (5 hours) The pattern is not mine.

I'm not really sure if knife making is a direction I'm going to go. I'm just having fun right now and making knives that I want for myself.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome, Matt; I'm in Chandler as well so it seems we are neighbors.

Your knives look terrific in both artistry and execution!

Hey cool!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! This place seems pretty cool. Lot's of inspiration around here for sure!

Here's a little knife similar to one I posted above. I made this for a buddy of mine for his B-day. I also did my first attempt at kydex for a sheath. Man that stuff is cool.

Anyway, here's the knife. I etched the blade for a pitted, old look and blued the blade. I'm still playing around with some file work patterns. Fun stuff! The handle is Ebony with nickle silver pins.

Hi Matt,
The first thing I noticed is you use your real name. I think thats a good thing to start off with. It just seems to make you more accountable if we know who you are.

I like your knives especially for the first ones. They will get more refined as you grow into this craft.

If you use pakka wood I think you should stop using it. The second one looks like it. Nice designs. I like the rings.

Keep them coming.

Thanks Bruce. Having your name out there as an artist is so important. Especially with the internet. I try to use my name on the net when I can and most of my work get stamped with my name (or mark) as well.

BTW, what is Pakka Wood?

Are you serious?

About what? :)
