New knives and I am in love.

Some knives I've picked up recently. Some were clean and I paid for it. (Frontier and SW - about $50 for the two)

Don't worry, some were dirty as crap and I paid for those, too (in a different, "Dammit Dan, I hate the smell of Tri-Flo" type way. Days of cleaning on some of these.

Gotta love the ad knives (this may be pushing the traditional envelope, but I don't think so...my Grandpa used to give me these every time I saw him...grain store, local garage, whatever). I had a lot as a kid and lost, destroyed them. Wicked sharp.

These all metal wonders. Never seen em before. All still have good walk and talk. I like the single blade a lot. Half stops on all but the middle knife. IKCO, Imperial, Colonial.

Cool, super thin knife. Ideal.

Picture doesn't do this one justice. Been looking for her for a while. Love the look and a great, well made knife.

My understanding is that this was Navy issue with a rubber rescue raft. No pointy parts.

Sword and Shield. Nice. Wish someone hadn't abused the blades.

Girl Scout knives. Been getting every one I see to give my daughter someday.

What can I say, I like ad knives.

This Schrade-Walden is amazing. I am obsessed with it. There is something about it. It just feels...right. Gorgeous, too. And OLD. (Does this make up for the first two?)

Nice variety of knives.

Those all metal knives are very interesting.

Thanks RS. I think so, too. I forgot to mention, as always, any info/observations/remembrances appreciated. I'm good at cleaning knives I don't know a whole lot about. :o

That Schrade-Walden is a jewel!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Carl.

Thanks Carl and Luciano and Robert. Man, if you could hold it. Not to sound too much like I collect crystals or anything, but that knife has a "feel" to it. It's beautiful, but it just feels like it has soul, too. Or something. Yeah. Hard to describe without sounding like an idiot. Gonna have to take my word. :)

I'd never call you an idiot, I know the old Schrade-Waldens. They were in a class by themselves for workmenship. Maybe I'm looking back through rose colored glasses, but in their day, they were up there with Sheffield and the better Solingen stuff. The Old Timers, good as they were, were a pale shadow of the Walden days. That looks like it is a special knife. You run across them once in a great while, the ones that have that 'feel'. You know it when you hand closes around it.

They are the ones you keep till your end, and hand down to a loved one who you hope will appretiate it for what it is. Ya done good there auld son!

Carl.

Good, I'm not crazy. And I don't think rose colored glasses are at play.

I was thinking when I was working on that knife...I don't know because I've never touched a custom made knife, but I have a few old knives that I just can't imagine being nicer. I'm sure a custom knife is nice, but I can't afford one, and that doesn't bother me a bit. I think I paid $35 (that's about my limit) for the SW. This one is by far my favorite...I mean, except for the fact that it has been used (which is a bonus for me) it is flawless. My daughter has already called dibs. She's two and loves looking at knives with me. :D

Anyone know anything about the metal ones?

The metal ones are what are usually called shell handles (meaning a thin, hollow formed one piece shell of metal that is crimped onto the liners - typically with tabs that fit into notches in the liners to make it all neat and not so obvious). Originally they would have had the "jigged" part painted or covered in a thin layer of plastic, leaving the "bolsters" as shiny metal to imitate a fully constructed knife with actual bolsters and scales. They were the cheapies back then, made by the millions and sold everywhere -- however, the ones with carbon steel blades typically have decent steel (later stainless bladed ones were more knife shaped objects).

And yes, that Schrade Walden is a sweet piece of work.

Thanks bud! I would have paid more, but was glad I didn't have to. ;)

I'll take a few more pics tomm when it's light. And I'll ask my wife to take them. They'll be nicer.

Thanks Dwight. I guess I've never seen em naked before. ;) I was wondering if they were originally metal. Guess not. Neat looking though.

I have some old imperials with different "scales" (yellow and fake bone mostly). (A lot actually...I like fish knives). I like the all metal look, ironically. And they are decent knives. And they were dirt cheap.

These are all really cool. Funny how we keep getting reminders of things forgotten.... when I saw the plastic folding knives it reminded me that I have a burgandy colored one that says AC DELCO GM & CBI PARTS, FT. MYERS, FLA. These were cool give-aways.

Happy to share! My wife doesn't get why I like looking at pics of other people's knives and motorcycles. But I do. And I figure y'all do, too. ;)

And yeah, those plastic ad knives are hard to come across. Amazing since there were probably a gazillion made. Wish businesses still gave away cool stuff like that!

Enjoyed the pics very much. Great collection, each with its own special character. Thanks!

That Schrade is a very beautiful knife, you must feel a lot of pride in owning that. Outstanding.
