Has anyone had any experience with the new Utica Cutlery knives made by Kutmaster?
I see they are made in the U.S.A. and look pretty nice for the money.

I'm curious too it almost seems to good to be true but then again Utica and Kutmaster have never been considered real expensive knives.

I've thought about trying one out also. It's easy to forget about them when considering a new knife purchase since they don't get discussed much. This review by knarfeng is the only one I remember seeing here.

Those Barlows are looking pretty nice in the pictures. I may have to try one of those. - Ed J

So you now know what is the next one........
Then report back to us all, so we too will know what the next one is.

I have a 1955 utica sportsman from my grandfather, I just convexed it and its a great knife still today.

I have one of the Utica Barlows.
- Springs are exactly even with the frame in both open and closed positions.
- The fit of the scales is good. I don't see any gaps.
- The blades have no wobble in open or closed position.
- But the springs on mine are real weak.

I got mine when they first appeared, IIRC along about June 2010. So the weak springs may be due to being a new model or due to some odd variation. I been looking at the stockman they make and been thinking I might give it a shot. The price is certainly right.

edited to add final assessment:
The Barlow I bought was a bit lower in overall feel than the Case knives I've had. But so is the price.

I had one, trapper in 1095
wasn't bad for like 30usd but quality was pretty low on mine, blade was dull and obtuse and didn't get very sharp at all
bone was of an odd colour and F&F were acceptable
also handled 2-3 others (congress and stock I think) I got for friends and they were dull in colour too and not that "nice" too

prefer my 40usd CV trapper much more, I'm now used to case, GEC and CS so I look new knives in a different way than I used years ago
EDIT: they are on par with others good to enter the trads world but IMO after a while you look for something better, besides you're looking for a user/beater but I'd still prefer the cv trapper

my 2 cents
