Today was an exciting day. I received a Benchmade monochrome (plain edge)and mini Buck strider bg-42 spearpoint (plain edge).
I love both knives but Buck disappointed me on sharpness this time. Maybe I am asking too much considering the blade thickness on the Buck  The Buck locks up solid and is built like a tank. Only negative I can really say it has is that the clip is a monster. It will eat through your pants but I don't have to try that to know. The g-10 gives great grip even though the ergonomics aren't the greatest. Any suggestions from anyone on getting a better edge on it with a sharpmaker? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
As to the Benchmade Monochrome, WOW. For a redline product costing about 34 dollars, this knife is spectacular. Solid lockup and razor sharp blade. The blade shape appeals to me, it has a nice point yet yes lots of belly for slicing. I have yet to test but I will start slicing paper and shaving hairs after I finish this post :D Another thing I like about this knife is that the clip is tight (not overbearingly so) and unobtrusive. I just have to treat it with some tufcloth and a few drops from the syringe. Hopefully this will smooth up the open and closing action. Now on to fondling both knives..... :D
Oh btw, I got the Buck from Oso Grande Knife and Tool (the last mini spearpoint bg-42 they had :D ) and the Benchmade I got at Spoon River Cutlery. Damn, both knives are totally worth it, but now I have to figure out how to get the Buck sharper without messing the edge up...... Hope this helps anyone that may be looking into these knives.
