Hi Ron ;)
The subj...

P.S. If you could post some pix that'd be great. I don't mind that those are unofficial or not from the SHOT show. As long as I can see the knife on the I'm fine.

Hi Gator,

Here are approximate dates of release:
  • Flash I & II (Zytel handled version): May
  • Black TiNi coated blade version of the Flash I & II (Zytel handled version): May (or later)
  • X-42 Field Knife: Starting to ship now, but back ordered till April
  • Field Pup: May
  • EOD PowerLock (including black oxide version): Now
  • Anodized Aluminum Flash I & II (all models): through the summer.
  • Tomcat II (with thumbstud): This is the replacement model for our existing Tomcat. The blade will be slightly modified and will incorporate a two-sided thumbstud.
Right now, all pictures are on our website. I'll keep you guys here updated as more pictures become available.

If you are interested in having one of these knives ASAP, I would suggest putting your order in NOW with your local dealer. If they do not stock SOG well, you may wish to find a dealer that is closer to the "source." Or, you can purchase directly from SOG at MSRP, and you'll be assured in a relatively earlier ship date.

It looks like we will make these 60/40 combo edges. They were planned as straight-edged only. This is a new development.

Let me know if there is any other questions you might have.

Thanks Ron :)

P.S. 60/40 on folders? Field knife is all plain edge?

P. P.S. It's kindda impatient, but we're gonna see some news from SOG on bladeshow too right?

Hi Gator,

Folders combo? Yes, but who knows for positive. Will there be some straight only? Don't know. Is it 100% final on 60/40? Don't completely know. This topic is fluid at them moment.

Field Knife straight only? Yes.

Blade Show? SHOT is the MAIN show for introducing new year model releases. But, we do try and introduce something new at Blade. (Did this answer your question? I'm not sure.)

Let me know if there's anything else! :)

Tomcat II?

Yeah baby, yeah. I've wanted an original Tomcat ever since I saw the very first ad for it way back when, but then passed it over with the advent of one-hand folders. Let's hope that the new and improved version is not crippled with a partially serrated edge, 'cause then I will finally have an excuse to get one!

Paul.

Some interesting stuff from this year's show!

The flash looks very interesting. Ron, can you comment on how the lock works? Why no Arc Lock, did it get in the way of the assisted opening? I'm trying to make up my mind about the handle. The two closely-positioned finger cutouts don't look comfortable, but it's tough to tell fro mpics, it can be a comfortable layout. Thanks for doing a full flat grind! And is that a deep-pocket clip?

I love the Blink! The prototype pic makes it look very unfinished, but I love both the handle and blade -- and another full flat grind! And is that a deep pocket clip?

Hi Joe,

Did you make it to the SHOT Show? I don't remember seeing you. Also, the Blink isn't shown on our website or other promotional material I'm aware of. Where are you seeing a picture?

The lock on the Flash series is a traditional bolt lock. This will be a low-profile clip. The finger cutouts are actually quite comfortable, but each will have their own perspective on this one.

The lock on the yet-to-be pictured TeamLeader (no, not the SOG knife of lore) will be a modified ArcLock. This will be a low-profile clip.

The lock on the Blink will be a lockback. This will be a clip similar to the Sculptura (no, not low-profile).

All three of these knives are assisted openers.

If you have further questions, please let me know.

Ron,

Unfortunately I missed the show, I would've stopped by otherwise. I'm not sure if I want to tell you where I saw the pic, 'cause then you'll make them take it down :) The blink prototype -- unless it's mis-labelled -- had a very roughly-done arclock in the pic. I wonder if it's actually the teamleader. Very sharp pointed fully-flat ground blade, curvey handle, deep pocket clip.

The image Joe is referencing is found at Equipped.com. At the time of my post, the prototype "Blink" referenced is actually the TeamLeader (a revival of SOG knife of lore). The Blink is a LOCK BACK based, assisted opening Gent knife.
