New style "Elite" KC Katana blade pics and (sorta) review
I am hoping this link will work... man, MSN sucks! Why can't they just give you an IP address and a directory like a REAL ISP?

Sorry, I don't think I can inline the pics in the post with this Mickey Mouse operation.
Major point:
This blade is probably NOT exactly what will end up being the final result. This is a sample that Cecil brought with him for finishing, and he has decided he is not happy with how "showy" the temper line is. (He wants stronger brighter one, and said he will probably end up using a straight one.) I haven't done any polishing or etching to bring it out on this yet, but it is just barely visible. I would day it's closest to the Notare style by what I can see. Hoping I can make it "Pop" more with some etching. I did get a bit of a discount though, so I am willing to do some work on it. Normally it's $225, I believe.
Minor point:
I am trying to become more comfortable with the correct terminology used in discussing japanese swords. I am including both an everyday english
version of the terms and what I believe are the correct terms. If I goof, please point it out so I can learn.
OK, pics in order and pointing out details that might be missed:
1) Overall shape, 36" yardstick next to it for reference.
2) Hey, it actually has a Yakote! (Ridge seperating point from body of the sword) I think it is an O' Kissaki (Long style point) in this case, but I am new to this. My old style KC Wak had no Yakote, so this is kinda cool.
3) Side view, that I hoped would show the Bo-Hi, (Fuller or grove) but it doesn't do too well. The Bo-Hi runs into the tang a couple inches, past the habaki (Blade collar). Not sure I dig that too much. Bo-Hi starts out about 5/16" wide and 1/8" deep, gradually gets slightly shallower and thinner down the length of the blade. The grinding in the Bo-Hi is slightly wavy, but not too bad. (Hard to see, but can tell by touch if you run fingers down it.)
4) Another pic of the Kissaki, more to show the termination of the Bo-Hi. Yakote is not showing as well as it does in real life. The termination of the Bo-Hi is slightly off from side to side... maybe 3/16"?
5) Tang stamp.. kind of cool... Star kind of shape like * Large K, small c . The K has a kind of squiggly upper arm.

6) ANother pic of the point. Yakote is not just cosmetic, you can feel the shift in angles along the line so it's actually ground in.
Overall, I am pleased with it. The edge is nicely hardened, punchy temper line or not. The back is soft, and a touch springy. The blade showed up bent, but I got it straight again which let me get a "feel" for the give point... I would guestimate it took a slight set at about 25 degrees. (I went in small stages)
(Very rough guess, and that is holding either end of the blade with a knee in the middle on the height of the reverse of the bend while straightening.) If anyone wants a better guess at the angle, describe to me how to check without destructive testing and I will do it. I am guessing it at just over 1/2 of a 45 degree bend.
I didn't get a weight on it (I meant to on the postage scale at work, but forgot.) but it seems like it will be lighter than the old style. All I have is an old style Wak to compare, if the Katana had a similar build it is surely heavier.
If you have any questions, let me know and I will do my best to answer. If you need better pics, I can try but no garuntees... my photography skills are non existant.
