Some guy posted a new kukri video on youtube. A bit slow in the beginning but he takes a razor sharp CS VG1 kukri out for some water bottle chopping that includes some very cool slow motion scenes. Good stuff and some pretty good music too.

Nepal,India, or Pakistan have some great craftsmen who know how to get the job done.

Cool video. I have the CS Gurkha Kukri SK-5 that I planned on reviewing on youtube pretty soon. Are there things you guys would specifically like to see in the review?

am i the only one who prefers the ones made in Nepal vs CS? cuz i tried one of CS's and they are great no doubt about it but mine holds an edge longer, and cuts a little easier, and IMO the only thing id change about mine is the grip needs to be redone entirely the bone handle chipped a little to much over the years but thats not worth me spending 650 for a whole new one

shortwinger thanks man for bringing this to our attention. you're right about the music & slow motion. that thing is so sharp & the technique so well executed that the plastic on the jug indicated almost zero friction in the cuts. very impressive & worth all the watching.

The SK-5 versions are quite a bit cheaper. The one in the video is the San Mai version and their most expensive kukri.

One of the big questions about the CS kukri is how it last with prolonged use. Not only a lot of use in a day but, after lots of days with lots of use. That is one of the big things in the real Nepalese kukris, they are built for a lifetime. The real ones have blades that are made with three different hardnesses to handle prolonged chopping.

See how the blade holds up to chopping wood, especially hard dry wood. What is the edge like after that. See how your hand feels.

Just be careful with it. It takes some time to get used to swinging a kukri. They go through branches you thought would take several swings and they can come back at you. Have fun.

I was going to get a CS SK5 kuk or the AUS8a model. But ended up buying another HI on the secondary market. So I am happy with the HI, convexed edge that is very very sharp and it chops like no tomorrow. Fast and light in the hand too. Wish the handle could be tad fatter but other than that it's the 3rd one I own and am happy with it. keepem sharp

Am I the only one unimpressed with plastic bottle cutting as a test? How many plastic jugs does one encounter in the wild?

I'd rather see if that KLO can prepare shelter & firewood for an emergency camp.

Hey CWL...when you are thirsty, you are thirsty. You got to get those bottles open fast in a survival situation! That saves you valuable paper slicing and forearm shaving time!

Don't you know anything about being in the woods?!? Firewood. Shelter. Sheesh.

No. It amazes me how so many are not willing to actually TEST their knives rather than just making cut tests... if you can even call them tests.

I guess you're right. I suppose I should save bandwidth for more important postings like "HELP, how do I remove a scratch from my "hard use" knife?"

The post wasn't meant to be about a test of any kind, just a post about a cool "video." It was nicely done with slow motion and music that is much better than the usual rap or head banging music.

There are pleny of test videos out there covering every knife imaginable. We must be careful not to be so anal and critical that we take the fun out of everything.

Its just a cool video...........
