New Lansky Hones?

Well I have a Lansky Diamond Deluxe kit but I am thinking I might benefit from the 'regular' hones. Would there be a benefit to purchasing some of the regular hones, or the basic regular kit. Or should I just buy an Arkansas stone or setup a strop to finish off? I just am not getting the results I want with the diamond ones. Maybe I am doing it wrong but I have watched quite a few of the tutorials and I still can't get that arm hair shaving edge I am looking for.

The Fine (600) and UF (1000) ceramic hones aren't included with the diamond kit, but work very well as finishing hones. I have both the 'Deluxe' kit (with the standard hones, including these ceramics), and the Diamond kit, and I've regularly used the two ceramics from the Deluxe kit in tandem with the diamond hones. I've also heard some positive things about the 'Super Sapphire' hone.

Thanks for the answer David. I am still trying to see if I can buy the fine and ultra fine separately but I am not having any luck.

Give Knifecenter a try. They're a paying dealer member here, so I don't think my recommendation will be frowned upon (I hope). They list replacement hones on their site, including the Fine & UF (Super Sapphire, too).

Good luck.

I always got better results from using the regular stones. I'd start with the XC diamond stone and then switch. If you think you likely to be obsessed (like many of us here), you might want to put the money into an Edge Pro Apex or Wicked Edge instead of upgrading your Lansky.

Good sharpening,
Dave
