Ok, gang;

I've been using old CRT's up until this last Friday, when mine died in the middle of a bil paying session. It was just a tad over three years old.

I attempted to purchase another CRT monitor, but I couldn't find one locally! So, I purchased a 19" LCD.

Now I have a headache!

This damn thing is not only very bright, but it seems like any letters that aren't in bold are a bit blurry.

I have adjusted the brightness, I have used the 'auto adjust' feature, I have adjusted the contrast, I have adjusted every damn thing on here, and it still is too bright, and the non bold text still seems blurry.

HELP!

If anyone has some suggestions, other than using it for target practice, I'd appreciate it.

Ahh yes, these are common problems.

The first generation of LCDs were too dark. It seems like manufacturers overcompensated for this. Turn down the brightness all the way, although you're probably already there.

Your average LCD isn't as sharp as your average CRT. You can turn on ClearType in Windows XP which often helps. It also looks a bit strange at first but is ultimately better in most cases.

The other thing you would want to do is check the monitor's native resolution and set your screen resolution to this. The manual should cover this. At 19" it's probably 1280x1024. Also set the refresh rate to at least 72 Hertz.

You can also buy a screen filter to cut down on the glare.

Did you buy the monitor at Circuit City? If you go to www.circuitcity.com you can read customer reviews on monitors, and other products as well. Go over the reviews and see if there is another monitor that might suit your needs better.

A lot of retailers, including Circuit, now charge a restocking fee if you return opened merchandise for a refund, nominally around 15%. However, a lot of the time they will waive that if you substitute your purchase for one of equal, or greater value.

Good luck.

my monitor died a few weeks ago-no way i was going to spend 200 on a new flat screen so i went to a pawn shop and paid 15 bucks for a used crt that works great

Sounds like a screen resolution problems or refresh rate.

Set the screen to its native resolution and refresh rate. Unlike CRT's, LCD's really only work well in their native mode.

Guys;

It is a Princeton, and I bought it at Costco. I really didn't have many choices for a reasonable price, and this one had the best picture in the store. I'm not having probs with pics; the color and clarity is awesome, and so is any bold or colored type.

I have it set at 1280x1024 at 75.0 htz. (preset mode)

I'll attempt to turn on 'Clear Type' and see what that does.

Clear Type made a HUGE difference. Thanks Ryan!

I have adjusted the contrast, brightness, and phase, and it will probably do me for now.

I did go sit in front of a 21" Dell LCD today at work, and it is MUCH clearer than this one. I see the Dell LCD's rate very high, and I have yet to see a review on this Princeton.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!
