I had a little spare time this weekend, so I finally got this Hossom Ranger sheathed. It's a beefy Ranger -- 7" extra thick 154cm blade, burl scales, from Jerry at Blade 08.

This was my first time to use a cross theme --- kind of like the way it turned out. Sorry for the poor pics, the sun was already going down.

i LOVE this knife

Thanks for looking :)

I like everything you've done to this one. The only thing I would change up on the next one this style would be to get rid of the exposed screw on the back holding the retention strap. The retention strap could have been made from an extension of one of the welt pieces and would have been secured by the edge stitching. If that angle was not right then you could cut a slot in the front side of the belt loop and sandwich the strap between the two layers of the belt loop.

Thanks Paul.

I "almost" did that this time, but got nervous about cutting the retention strap eventually. I wish there was a way to put the strap on the non-edge side, but wasn't possible on this one.

I'm listening to your advice though, believe me. I've never even considered using an extended welt, I'll have to look into that

Nice work Eli! That cross is very well done! :)

I agree with you on the snap strap, I like the way it will swivel out of the way when the knife is un sheathed. The bigger the knife the more chances of slicing into a strap.

Beautiful blade Eli. Congrats on that score. AS to the sheath. I like the carving and the work looks quite good. I like sewing the strap and I like to attach the retention strap to a d-ring. I guess we all have our little foibles.

Thanks Paul.

Here's an alternative retention set up which would work in your application and it detaches from either side.

Paul, I do like the look of that one. Is it secured through the back of the sheath, or is it unsecured?

That would be simple to replace, for sure...

It is unsecured and totally removeable. In actual use you just release one side and let it hand down the from from the stud.
