Over the weekend I made my first Piggyback sheath and made it for my Customized Camillus made BK9 and Western 648 hunter. I picked that pair because the brands match and the models compliment each other. The Western is a good "pairing" knife handling small stuff and the BK9 handles the big stuff. Sheath was made with 10-12oz Chestnut Saddle skirting from Wickett & Craig. Took me longer to build since it was my first try and lots of thinking and planning but it was worth it.

The Belt loop is sewn onto the back of the sheath creating a shelf for the handle, which helps it fit better. Also used an X-loop I learned from Leatherman. Thread is Bardours 6 strand linen thread and all stitching was done by hand. Finished with Audenouf's Heavy Duty leather preserver. Can't see it in the pictures but I attached the BK9's retaining strap with a brass bolt. This way if I change handles or accidentally cut the leather, I can eassaly replace the strap.

Thanks for looking!

Who put the choil on that "9"? How do you like it? I've often thought of put'n one on mine.

Looks great!

Is your BK9 missing a nut?

Yes, it is. Took the handle slabs off years ago to try something and lost the middle nut/bolt. Then I moved and found it then lost it and found it this summer when I moved. Durn things in storage somewhere and I have no clue as to where. LOL!

Awesome! I think your BK-9 is crying for new Mircata or wood scales!

Made some wood scales years ago but broke them while drilling the holes for the bolts. Guess I have not gotten around to making a new set yet. What wood would you use?

I did all the custom work to my BK9 some years ago. Used an 80 or 90 grit sanding drum to do the choil. Used my belt sander to convex the edge, polish the spine and put more of an edge on the back. Yep, I like the choil, makes my knife a little different and easier to choke up on.

I have an HI setup very similar..

did you stitch by hand or do you have a machine, if by hand what did you use??

very nice, especially for your first go..

Cool.

Thanks!

Looking good, man! I like the piggy back design!!

Thanks. if not drawn properly, the Western 648 can hang up on the BK-9's handle. Something for me to keep in mind for next time.

Thanks! It was all hand stitched. The thread was 6 strand Bardours Linin that I waxed my self. Save a bit of money over the heavy waxed nylon I used to use. The holes were drilled using a drill press and a Titanium Nitride coated bit that was probably 7/64" diameter. That was my standard bit for heavy waxed nylon thread but since I switched to thinner thread I'll probably switch back to a 5/64" bit on the next sheath I make. hope that helps.

I've been kicking around the thought of having a leather sheath made for my Camillus BK9.It's been one of my all time favs big blades!I really like your sheath set up!

looks solid!

Bladite

Thanks, nothing fancy, just a good solid sheath is what I like.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. How long have you had your BK9? IIRC I got mine back in 2004. It gets carried more then any other large blade that I have. Check out the Sheaths & Such forum or email me if you need any help with your sheath.
