New leather for my BK7

While I'm not bitching about the factory sheath (), I do prefer leather for my knives. Since I recently bought this BK7, I spent some time this weekend making a new sheath for it. Lots of guys on here do better, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

That's very nice.. Love the Symetrical design and the Basket Stamping..

Great work! I understand why some people may like to have a pouch but I really like the simple, functional sheaths like this. That design looks great too.

I never really liked tooling in my sheaths before.. To me it just looked too "western" if that makes sense. Here lately though, I have been coming around and really liking it....yours looks awesome man... A certain toupee wearing eagle is making me a sheath for my 7 and I told him that I dont want to see it until it arrives in my mailbox...I cant wait to see what he comes up with...

Is this something that you are going to continue to do or was it a one time thing?

I like it!!
Nice work.
How long does it take to make a sheath like that?

Nice work! I've been talking to a guy I know about making a couple of sheathes for my Beckers. He's been working leather for about a year now and I would like to get started.
Any advise for a noob?

Looks good! Need a job?

I used to do alot of tooling but it's not really 'in' right now though at times I still get some interesting projects to tool.

I made this one in about an hour and a half, or so. It was just a "fly by the seat of my pants" design. I plan to make another one for the BK7 and 17, but with a little more designing ahead of time. I really just do it for the fun of it.

If you are just planning to get started, I'd look to see if there is a leatherworkers guild or club in your area. If so, they are always looking for new folks, and generally get together for clinics or lessons monthly. If not, Tandy usually has weekend classes on the basics. They aren't the best or cheapest to buy leather from, but the people they hire are generally pretty passionate about leatherworking. I'd say to just buy a set of tools and start practicing. It isn't terribly expensive, and lots of fun.

very cool. i think it looks great. i would love to make my own sheath one day. i recently downloaded some leathermaking books etc but haven't had the chance to even look at em. life gets in the way too many times. thanks for sharing
