I just got a new LED modual for my 4d cell mag. Have to say that I am pretty impressed. This will not replace that cheap ass departmental streamlight.

Got it at Wally world for $18.00. Thing about getting a second Led Mod. for my 3 cell or just get another 4d cell modual.

I used it tonight while on duty. Not bad for the money. I will admit that its not the best you can get, but it is better than the Stream Light rechargeable that my department issued me. I have alway felt that mag light had better staying power than rechargables. This is only increase by the LED modual.

What kind of Streamlights are you using? For a Mag-LED to be better than a rechargable Streamlight (other than in runtime) doesn't make any sense to me.

I agree.

I have a SL-20X and a Stinger, and both of those lights leave my 3 and 4 cell Mag lites (with halogen bulbs) in the dust.

My LED Surefire L-4 smokes the mags as well.

It's the run time I am talking about. Heck the Stream light is brighter by a mile. If I want brightness, I'll use my Surefire M6.

Right now i am happy with the brightness provided by the Mag and its run time. This is just my .02.

By your posts, I'm assuming you are a cop.

Why is runtime a problem when you have a charger in your patrol vehicle? Streamlights are designed to be left on the charger, so they are ready to go when you need them.

I'm a retired firefighter, and I carried the SL-20X and the Stinger in tandem while on duty. My Stinger lived in a pouch on my belt, and I charged it each evening, unless it got used. In that case, it was charged immediately upon returning to the station. The SL-20X stayed on the charger in the truck. I removed it from the charger after my shift was over, and replaced it with the dept issed SL-20X. (Those were pure junk; beat to crap, so I used my own.) I also carried a Pelican super saber light in my turnouts.

There are just too many better choices than a Mag-Lite, but whatever works for you I guess.

No charger in vehicle. No take home vehicle.

Well, if you really want/ have to stay with a Maglight, 3 cell C or D size, then get a drop in Diamond 3 watter (TerraLux). It is close to 2X the cost of the MagLite brand drop in. But it shoots out a super bright white beam at about 80 lumens! And run time is at least 4 hours peak minimum from my personal experience. Try the folks at www.lighthound.com

Thanks for the information.

Some two months back I put in a Maglite Xenon bulb into my 3d Mag. The brightness is very good and focus is far better giving a tight long beam or broad clear cover for bush walking at night. I use 3 x duracels and they last very well and can be bought almost any where.
