Here's the synopsis:

"Two small towns in the middle of nowhere: Hope and Despair. Between them, nothing but twelve miles of empty road. Jack Reacher can't find a ride, so he walks. All he wants is a cup of coffee. What he gets are four hostile locals, a vagrancy charge, and an order to move on.

They're picking on the wrong guy.

Reacher is a hard man. No job, no address, no baggage. Nothing at all, except bloody-minded curiosity. What are the secrets that Despair seems so desperate to hide?

With just one ally—a mysterious woman cop from Hope—and many enemies, Reacher goes up against a whole town, hunting the rich man at its core, cracking open his terrifying agenda, asking the question: who has the edge—a man with everything to gain, or a man with nothing to lose?"

If you have no idea what I'm talking about.....RUN to the nearest bookstore and pick up a Reacher book.

You won't regret it!

These are tactical knife/gun/ guy stories at their best.

I have read a number others this year....but I consider them "between Reachers". :D

Check it out!

Yes Sir the Jack Reacher novels are very entertaining. I picked one up last August and was hooked, think I've read all of them now.

Reacher is one of the coolest characters to come along in a long, long time. Definitely a badass. A movie would be nice, if done in the same league as the Bourne movies. My mother and sister love the Reacher books to death.

I read a bit of the last one, it seemed to be of an entirely different tone and attitude in general, with lots of eurotrash-type comments, etc.. Felt like a ghost author tried to sneak in almost...

Those look GREAT Dan.....

Who turned you onto the REACHER books??

:D

Dans' right, if you haven't read a Lee Child book, stop what you are doing and go get one! You WILL enjoy it.

The premise sounds a lot like Killing Floor, which I read in the summer of 06. It was a page-turner, I enjoyed it immensely. I'll keep an eye out for Nothing to Lose.

I have all 11 Reacher books as "e-books" The problem is I have a hard time reading a book on a computer. I guess I'm going to have to buy them again.

Yeah...I've tried that too....a computer chair is usually not a comfy chair...hard to read for pleasure.

I'm now doing all books as audio books. I can listen to them in the car, as well as while I'm working in the shop.

I loved Killing Floor, great writing, mean story and Reacher was no superman. In the sequels it became a bit stale and he became too good. The new one sounds interesting, I'll have a look into it.

If you want crime stories then nobody beats Lehane, in particular the Pat/Angie PI series starting with A Drink Before The War and getting better by the book. The legendary Gone, Baby, Gone was just made into a movie, haven't seen it yet but the original story is just plain great (not even Affleck can destroy it :D )

+1 on the Lehane novels.

The Swagger books by Stephen Hunter are a great read. Also, the stand alone book The Day Before Midnight. Why they never made that into a movie, I'll never know.

Also, check out AJ Quinnel. Man on Fire, The Perfect Kill, The Blue Ring are excellent.

This is a strange coincidence. I just recently started reading Killing Floor. Pretty good so far. Might have to read the whole series!

I have liked everything by Hunter, so far.
The Lee Child books are great, but he makes the occasional error in details, which irks me. Overall, they are excellent!
Another good series is the 'Spenser' books, by Robert B Parker.

Yes...I agree, rooikat. But, not being a military guy himself, and not even from the USA...he does get enough stuff right to outweigh the ocassional tactical faux pas. :foot:

:D
