Well as the title states I just got my new Kershaw Leek 1660BR in today. I absolutely love it. It is my first "real" knife purchase and coupled with my new Lansky I believe it is enough to give me a push off the cliff into knife collecting. I am very impressed with this knife so far and it came razor sharp out of the box. So sharp in fact that the tip kept tugging on the quilt when I was taking the pictures for this thread.

I also received my new laptop today in the mail (my old one fried earlier in the week). I was able to use my new Leek to open the box which is pretty cool as it actually gave me an everyday task to test it out on. It cut through the tape/box like butter and I couldn't be happier (I know I sound like a broken record but I really am digging this knife). I could easily see this taking over as my EDC especially since it is an American made knife and my current EDC is not. The only thing I am afraid of is forgetting to push up the little guard at the end of the blade and it accidentally springing to action in my pocket. I wear my EDC in my left pocket in the left corner though so hopefully that will help as it would open into the pocket wall instead of into the body of my pocket if that makes sense.

I still have much left to learn about knives as well as many more to purchase and I thank you all for the knowledge shared on this forum.

Here are the pictures.

I have been carrying a Kershaw Whirlwind (also a speedsafe assisted opening knife) as my EDC for almost 10 years and it has NEVER came open in my pocket.
BTW, the Whirlwind does not have the "safety".

I've actually removed the safety on my Leek. It just gets in my way. I haven't had any extra holes added to my pants/skin yet.

I guess I have nothing to be afraid of then haha.

Did you remove it on all of yours or just one in particular? The only reason I think I will leave mine in is that I have friends who like to pickup my knives and mess with them when they come over to my house as I leave my knives in plain sight for the most part (I don't have any children and there are never any at my house). I could see one of them picking it up and accidentally cutting themselves but then again they probably shouldn't handle a knife in the first place if they don't know how to keep from cutting themselves haha.

I know I am kind of resurrecting and hijacking this thread at the same time here, but...

Yesterday, twice while trying to use my Leek I could not open it because at some point in the day the "safety" became engaged in my pocket.

I think I will be removing it as well.
