Hi,

Somebody tell me why I buy Kershaw Onions? I really don't care for the "modern" folders that are so popular today. I'm a slippie kind of guy. I'd rather have a Case or even a Rough Rider slippie in my pocket than any of those new fangled models.:D

Just don't let me get near a Ken Onion Kershaw though. Cause I gotta have it! So when I saw WallyLand had a display case full of black Leeks in the new Sandvik 14C28N, I had to get one. I did manage to resist for oh, a couple of days until I caved.:D

A question for the Mafia, my Leek was born December of '08. I thought that the new Sandvik 14C28N wasn't going to start replacing the old 13C26 until after January of this year? The Kershaw website doesn't show the new steel in the Leek line.

In any case, I swear I'd buy a Kershaw Onion if was made out of paper mache with a popsicle stick blade!

I think it's 13C26, which is actually a great steel. It's been rated higher than VG-10 in edge retention, and since it's coated, you shouldn't have a problem with corrosion.

Nice score! I have two leeks myself, a rainbow and a black boron+gold plating.

Hi,

What is confusing me is the card from the blister pack. Which ID's it as a 1660CKTX and also says Sandvik 14C28N Stainless. But the BOD date isn't what I expected, and the blade is etched 1660CKT without the X at the end. So that's why I ask.

Thanks,
dalee

The "X" indicates a clam-pac, not a box, from a big-box store. It won't be on the blade.

Not sure about the blade steel vs the BOD. I was under the same assumption as you.

Well I'm not so sure about my statement.... I'll go edit it.

I'm still thinking it would be 13C26, just because Thomas said Jan was the switchy for the steel. You would alsmost have to do a test beyond the cost of the knife to determine the steel.

It may be that some of the 13C26 models were still around and the packaging was anticipating the 14C28N. Still, 13C26 is a fine steel, and as k&g says, I suspect it will be VERY hard to tell the difference in real life/use.

Hi,

Thanks Riffraff, That clears up the X part. Another odd thing I just noticed. the card says "shaving Sharp" partially serrated blade. And it's a plain edge edged blade. Perhaps I just got one with the wrong card?

Yup, possibly the wrong clamshell

^^^^ qqfob: new snapon leeks? What type of handle? Linky?

Sorry, I saw them in person. I was going to pick one up to sell here, but got the Chubby instead. If i move the Chubby I'll get one next week when i see my Snap on guy.

Picture the OCC Leek but instead of a web cutout it's a Snap on logo cutout... in red, black, or blue
