Merry Christmas Tomboy!

Hope you like it as much as I do. Lord knows you've waiting long enough to get it back.

This thing had been well used and sharpened to death before coming into her possession. She was willing to trust me with the modification and patient enough to wait on it.

Definitely looked worthy enough for a new shape! That came out pretty good.

Thanks! I'd have liked to take it further, but any more would've required a regrind which she didn't want to do. Didn't want to lose the logos.

I have no idea how old the knife is.

Dude, that looks amazing! It doesn't look all beat up and unloved any more. It's, like, a proper, functional knife again. Thank you so much. :triumphant:

Nice!

How old is that knife?

Oh, geeze. I have no idea. I saw someone selling it on eBay for next to nothing since it was in such bad shape. Seller didn't even know what model it was; just said that he got it at an estate sale. Caly 3 is my favorite Spyderco model, so I bought it in the hopes that it could be fixed up.

My original thread about it is here.

Bryce is awesome and agreed to wharncliffe-ify it even though that's not a service he usually offers, and then he went above and beyond by suggesting it might look & function better with some changes to the spine, thus volunteering himself for additional work. He did some markups and took photos to show me what he had in mind and was very patient with me while I tweaked the design a couple of times and figured out exactly what I wanted. Totally a great guy to work with. :encouragement:

To be fair, the blade still has all the original scratches. They're just hiding in the filter.

I'm sorry I didn't let you fix it up to your satisfaction. :p I don't care about the scratches, though. It has a usable edge now. A straight edge instead of a bumpy one that's obviously a mistake and not something done intentionally for any logical reason. An edge that I'll be able to sharpen myself when the time comes. & It has a handy dandy little finger rest on the spine for extra control and precision cutting. In fact, the shape of the blade looks a lot like the Air to me, and I love my Air. I'm totally a satisfied customer.

Well done. Always enjoy seeing new life for a knife past its prime. That shape gives it the air of a "Big-Brothered-handle" to the Bradley, erm, Air.

Get some fine use from it now, tomboy.

Interesting that the original oddly recurved blade had such an even- and uniform-appearing bevel, as if someone with better sharpening skills had a hand on it after it was previously "re-contoured."

I'm betting it was worksharped to death. So the bevel remained even, but too much material was removed at the beginning of each stroke. That or a kitchen counter top thing.

I like seeing damaged blades fixed up, good job.

The "before" blade is what can happen from sharpening on rods only, or not keeping the blade flat on a bench stone... using the edge of it.

vary good job,i noticed you have removed that regrind, could i ask why you didn't add a small sharpening notch just in front of the choil ! i like seeing saved pocket knifes that have new life in them and you really saved this one,i have a caly 3 in super blue that sorta of looks like the one in photo two)and this is giving me some much needed ideas,as how to save mine!thanks for showing us.
