I had been wanting a light, and slim neck knife for hiking and backpacking when I ran into this thread from tradja on KF http://www.knifeforums.com/forums/showtopic.php?tid/792236/
Well that really got me jonesing for that Carter necker. I drooled over it for a couple of weeks, then noticed a similar one with brown Micarta scales up for trade here! Luckily a deal was struck quickly, and the Carter is in my hands. :D What a great little knife. It weighs next to nothing and can easily be attached to a pack strap if I don't want it around my neck. Could even slide it in a back pocket. It is razor sharp too!

 nice score there dude.... i love those carter knives.. i've wanted one for a long time... he makes such awesome knives... a bit on the pricey side though.... well worth every penny.....

i got to check out tradja's knife first hand... it's a beauty, very stout little knife... made me want one even more....we met up after him and his wife did the CDT, they had a car parked in SANTA CRUZ, so they could drive it back north to oregon... so they rolled over and hung out for a bit... they're great folks... he was drooling over some of my bark river knives...:D

What a great looking little utility blade ya have there tknife. I didn't look at the link..... what kind of steel is used?

Congrats:thumbup:

I saw that he stopped by your place Mike. What a looooong hike, but looks really fun! Yeah, definitely pricey, I'm just lucky I had another good knife to trade for it :D It was fate really.

tarmix, Steel is a Hitachi carbon steel core sandwiched between outer layers of stainless, really pretty cool! And man it is SHARP!

That's just what a necker should be-- dead simple, sharp, and that one has a good working handle. The wharncliff blade makes a lot of sense too-- it's not a stabbing weapon, it's a cutting tool and the design makes for a good strong point and easy to sharpen. I imagine they are a lot easier to grind too.

That's another thing that drew me to it, it doesn't look tactical or "scary" so won't alarm any sheeple. I'm using it in the kitchen now, and it sails through tomatoes like they were butter. I had been wanting to carry a necker instead of a folder in the woods, and this seems to be perfect.

Great score on that beauty from Sensei Carter. Very utilitarian design and ruggedly handsome too IMHO. I am fortunate enough to own one of his kitchen models. Like your knife, it came from the master's hands just crazy sharp!!

Wishing you many happy outings with your new sidekick.

I met Murray Carter at Blade Show last year, and it was an inspirational chat. His knives were all masterfully done. His story is unreal too. I can't find any website for him though. Lost his card if he had one on it.

I hope he's at Blade again this year...

Did find this page:

Read his story, really fascinating: http://www.wiglaf.org/carter/

I talked to Murray a little bit at a Blade west show many years ago. He was a really nice guy, and was putting razor edges on peoples knives with his water stones.

tatsu, yeah man, I really do like it! I was really looking into finding one of these when I saw your trade post. Hope you like the Hayes too!

Really awesome knife...I am just getting into neck knives...its my new thing, glad to see there are some knives to dream about, that thing is awesome, T.

tknife, did I mention how jealous I am.....

Fiddleback, I'm more jealous of you because you can actually make beautiful knives! I can only buy or trade for mine. I've tried making a few and they come out ugly and dull. (By the way, please put me on your list for next round of Nessies :D)
