It was time for a change, small as it may be. I don't know of any other smiths out there with my last name, at least spelled the way I do. So, I had my initials "T.L." removed and "Vandeventer" centered over the snake. The letters are clearer than before and the logo is narrower so it fits better on small ricassos, as seen on this soon to be completed feather & ivory hunter.

And it will serve as a time marker. Starting January 1st 2011, every knife leaving my shop will sport the new logo.

New logo. Bad angle but it's actually very clear and crisp

Graphic designer speaking here, and I can say without reservation that I love them both, You've done an excellent job of allowing people to find you AND incorporating an evocative symbol.

And you're right, you gained readability without losing anything in the identification department.

Well done.

..........and the new one made that damascus look like a fine feather!:D

^^ what L.A. said about legibility and brand. Smart, and I much prefer the new mark/logo.

Cheers back!

As a fellow snake guy I appreciate your logo.. :) It does look a little cleaner with just the last name.

the new logo looks great however i must admit it took me a minute or two to take my eyes off that beautiful damascus, wow!

Thanks everybody. I'm really pleased with the change. IMG contacted me today and they want permission to use the photos on their new website. I'll have it professionally photographed and supply them with a better shot. I'm eager to see how it looks on an up & coming single steel (W2) blade.

Off topic: CJW, I see you're from Edisto Island. I spend a little time there but not doing the tourist thing. Do you know the famous Clamp Brothers? If you do, you'll know what I'm eluding to. ;) Heyward has one of my knives.

Cheers,

Terry how about posting the picture of the new logo on the W2 blade in the Maker's Mark sticky a the top of the page. I have both the old and new but one on a single steel blade might show up better. Thanks.

I really like the new logo too. Course I liked the old one too. Something about snakes I guess. Kind of sticks in your mind.
