So as some of you know I love the machax. I have all the versions and variations, it's just my all time favorite big blade. So anyway if you don't know, the camillus version of the machax is terrible. Fat .25" stock, fat edge, fat saber grind. I don't remember who coined this phrase when talking about the camillus version "It's like swinging a tire iron" but it has really stuck with me because of how true it is. The only good thing I've found about the cam machax is that they make the best platform for mods. The first cam machax I came across I paid next to nothing for because of how bad its condition was. It performed terribly so I never used it. I ended up spit balling some ideas and I've always heard bladite talk about how his ideal machax would be something like .25" thick and full convexed. So I ended up putting a full convex grind on it. It turned out great and brought the weight down to slightly above the cincin's. The edge was actually thin enough to cut something. It was my absolute favorite, that is until I got a real cincin.

After the bk20/29 came out and shortly after blade show I got a killer TM Hunt bowie. Both of these blades were flat ground and .25" stock. I really like how these blades performed and thought that maybe one day I'd get a custom maker to mock up a machax for me in flat with .25 stock. I've done tons of mods and stuff on my grinder but I always thought this project might be out of my league. Finally said F%$k it, I'll do it myself. When I visited my parents on Christmas break I got to play with my good old harbor flight 1x30 grinder that I left behind with them when I moved. All in all I think I put about two hours or so of time into this. Had to go very slow and dunk the blade in water constantly to keep it from overheating.

Sorry I'm rambling. Anyway, it turned out great. I have not used it yet, but hopefully I can soon. It started at around 23oz I think, now it's down to 19.25oz. (Side note, my cincin clocks in at 19.35oz and a kabar is around 15oz if I recall.) It's .25'' thick full flat with a convexed edge. I opted for a very thin edge, I probably should have left it a bit thicker because after all, it is a chopper. I still need to get the coating off the spine and handle area, put a patina on it, and find it a new sheath.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. And it's an honor to have Ethan stop by on my thread! I remember discussing this and some other machax ideas with you at the last gathering.

Oh boy that 1x30 performed! I can't believe it's still running after all the crap I do to it. I did get it smoking when I did my bk29 mod, but it still going, worth the money!
