New machete/busch knife on the scene!

Hi,

The Camillus looks nice but a price of around $100 is a lot in my eyes.

I use the Ralph Martindale "Jungle knife" with a 12" cutting edge and a tapered blade and it cost me around $20 so 1/5 of the new Camillus.

I used it a couple of weeks ago to chop a lot of beech firewood ranging from 2" to 5" thick and the wood was from cut down beech trees that had dried for 3+ months.
I wasn't allowed to use a chain saw in the "protected forest" so had to rely on the machete to cut the wood down to 7 foot pieces to fit my trailer, the final cutting into 14" pieces happened with my mechanized knife, a chainsaw

at home.

The beech was very hard but the Jungle knife cut through it very good. Afterwards I didn't have any blisters on my hand and the edge was still sharp. The hump at the back of the handle is real handy in keeping the machete stay in your hand when swinging/chopping with force.

I made a nice Leather sheath to hold it securely and that cost me about $5 on materials.
I also refinished the grip sanding down the grip flush with the metal and reshaping it somewhat but that's just fun to do.

Here's a picture of the "Jungle knife"

I'll try making a picture of the homemade saddle leather sheath.

The Army Surplus in Spokane WA on Division St has them in stock, and I imagine they can ship. If you call there, tell Kevin that David sent you.

Yeah, I know what you mean guys... It certainly will be a good machete/bush knife, however, somewhat expensive with an 'under $100' tag. We still have to wait to see it's final price which is going to be still far from factory machetes, I suspect. It will be interesting to see this up-scale machete finding its niche between the cheap factory and the expensive custom models. Interesting adventure from Camillus....
