Ok, so I love flashlights just about as much as I love knives. I happened across this...

I always loved maglights and have used a magcharger on duty for years. The old D cell maglights work batter as hammers and club than they do as flashligts. Of course they are very durable, but they have been WAY behind the technology curve as far as light output goes. I orderd one of the new ML300LX from amazon for $56 bucks. It is awesome. Maglite has finally caught up with the times. 625 lumens of sunburn inducing light for 17 hours! Multiple modes and a new 1/4 turn spot to flood head.

The thing is awesome. Yes it is heavy and big, but if you always loved Maglites and were dissapointed by their dim light, then you need one of these. Made in USA too. I will get some pics tonight once it is dark out.

The problem I have with any d or c cell light is the batteries. If you leave them in the truck they drain down fast and have a danger of leaking. I have gone to using AA AAA in lithium or CR123 lights. Might try one of these new maglights if I can ever find the CR123 to D cell adapters.

The mag lite pro plus led series is quite nice, even the std led maglites I'm a big fan of. The batteries last ages , and put out a lot of light. The old bulb ones are crap

What batteries do you use? I can put a new set of energizers in and leave it in the truck and they are dead within a month or so with no use. I figured is is from the heat and cold. Now if the light is in the house the d cells hold up well.

It's about time they upped their game. I've been carrying Surefires for to many years and I have a hard time going from using 123's to C's and D's... That and I really don't care much for lights that have 20 different settings. All I want is low and high, and on some designated use lights, high only.

Granted they are a totally different price point, but I like the size of this one, and it has a true 500 Lumen output. Many companies lumen ratings are a little over enthusiastic...

Well leaving any electronic device with its batteries in unused for a month is gonna drain the batteries isn't it ?

I completely agree but my issue is the overall size and weight.

I like my G2 LED Nylatron [original model] - $48 on Amazon - search Surefire G2 Nitrolon Single Output Incandescent

....but I installed a 1000 Lumen, LED bulb - $7 on Amazon - search CREE XM-L T6 LED Bulb textured reflector 1Mode 1000Lumens 3.7-18V for Surefire C2 G2 Z2 P60 P61 6P 9P G3 S3 D2 Ultrafire 501B 502B

Using the incandescent bulb, the run time sucks and you can ONLY use < 3 volt disposable/alkaline/lithium batteries. Convert it to LED and then you can go from 60 mins of light to about 2.5 hours...provided you use the rechargeable 3.7 Volt - 123A batteries [and I do].

Search Amazon for 10x 2000mah 3.7v Cr123a 16340 Li-ion Rechargeable Battery +Charger for Ultrafire - $19 for 10 batteries plus the charger. That will give you about 12.5 hrs of continuous light. Oh...and CR123a batteries fit very nicely into a plastic Garcia Vega cigar tube :)

I'm not knocking MagLights because I've had and used them - but the G2 is about 1/800th the weight of the Mag light and fits in the palm of your hand.

I have a LED AAA cheapo 60 lumen flash light I leave under my couch because I often fall asleep out there, the light is in arms reach from being on the couch if you know where it is. Last time I swapped out the batteries was almost a year ago and the thing still puts out light. Its not as bright as it could be, but without a doubt still puts out light. Actually come to think of it, I have a flashlight hear on my desk that has the same batteries in it it had 2 years ago and the thing still puts out a tiny bit of light. Enough to get around if the power went out but it is really dim.

All depends on the batteries. I have some lights I just keep in places for emergency use so they do not get used. Lithium batteries no matter if AA AAA or CR123 will hold up for 10 to 12 years while stored. Heat and cold do not seem to affect them. I know this as the ARC AAA P on my keychain does not get used much at all and it has had the same Energizer lithium AAA in it for years. It has had long term exposer to heat and cold but still lights up anytime I need it too.

Oh I am not knocking maglights at all either. I love them,I just need them to have a different power supply for what I want to do with one. My Son has one in his room right now. I used to have one between the nightstand and bed until I dropped it and the LED broke. It did hit the floor hard. I replaced it with one of the 900 lum 3 c cell Duracell lights costco had last November. It seems like a really good light as well but have not really used it enough to tell. Just like having a light like it or the maglight for those times I need a really bright long range beam.
