Hi all, I'm a new member but have read plenty of reviews from this site, always very well done I might add.
I am in need of a new "main knife" for general camp chores, carving and someday soon, skinning beasts ;P
I want it to be durable and functional, but also aesthetically pleasing, which to me is a knife that uses a lot of natural materials (wood, horn, etc.)
It has to be somewhat rugged and preferably stainless steel since I am a hammock backwoods camper and it will be on occasion, exposed to the elements. I'm not willing to pay for anything like a Fallkniven, since imho the value is simply not there for the price.
I was seriously considering the Buck 119 special but I didn't like the new age materials that the handle is made with, and its cousin the 119BR with a cocobola handle was too pricey (considering other options that for the same price, look better).
So now to the point! The Helle Safari and the Jegermester both meet my criteria but I would like to hear peoples opinions on both of them!
The Safari has a finger guard and a 4 3/4" blade.
The Jegermester has a 5 1/3" blade.
Of the 2, I'm leaning towards the Jegermester for its longer blade... big enough to use as a digging tool if need be.
Does anyone have an opinion on either of these knives? If you can suggest a knife that might suit me better I'm all ears and would really appreciate any input at all!
Thanks ;D
