I recently bought a Spyderco Manix 80mm PE. It is in new condition with box. I really like it. Solid. It makes the loudest sound when the blade locks open.
Anyway. Should I use it in my edc rotation or should I save it and keep it in new condition? This dilema is tearing me apart.
What say you?

Use it responsibly. I have both an S90V Military and Manix 2, Ive used and carried them both extensively for the last few years. Both still look WONDERFUL, minus the clip dang near new.

If you're sure its one you like then use it.

I hung onto my Manix 80mm for a few months unsure if I would like it, and realized I just didn't like how heavy and wide it was, so I sold it.

If you know you really like it then put it in your pocket.

Life is too short......use it.

Couldn't have said it better. Spyderco is always coming out with new models all the time. Enjoy the one you have and rest assured that if you can't get an exact replacement, odds are that Spyderco will have a new model that you'll love down the road.

Did you buy it just so you could sell it someday?
Not sure what has happened. The dang thing is just so beautiful. I quess I'm star struck. 40 some folders and all are users. No safe queens. Maybe I just need to get that first scuff mark on it.

If you're having trouble getting past that first step, send it to me and I'll get a good first scuff mark on it for you. :D And a good twenty scuff marks after that, just to be sure. :p

Use it!

Or save it and sell it to me later as a LNIB :).

Actually, I have often debated this but the steel junkie in me always wins and I just HAVE to use it to see:
1. How easy/hard the steel is to sharpen
2. How fine an edge it takes
3. How long the hair whittling edge lasts (Otherwise I simply trust Jim Ankerson's Steel edge retention post)
4. How much I like the overall design of the knife

Just my $0.02...but you asked :D.

Depends on what you bought it for. I can truly appreciate the aesthetics of form, function, design and materials of a well made knife. My priority however has always been function so I buy primarily for use. But knife lust can be irrational at times, at least for myself. I have a Rajah 2 that just sits around. Once in a while I'll wipe it off or oil it up, enjoy the robust click of blade opening\engagement. Mock chop a couple of times, then back it goes. I know it's silly but it's also harmless fun for me. And my rational side can't process it. So buddy, if you don't want to damage or blemish this knife, play with it, clean it, put it away. I'm sure that we all have enough users that we can not use a few and just appreciate them for what they are. To me, this is pretty much a hobby and hobbies are supposed to be fun. B.T.W., I just shipped off a big Manix 1 in trade for a F.B. that is far more practical. I know for a fact that the Manix was up to any task but it was too nice in a way. I couldn't bring myself to get rough with it. As I said, my knife use\choices at times are more emotionally driven than practical, but it is quite fun. Do whatever you find to be the most fun.
:)

Why did you buy if you're not going to use it. It should be a no brainer.

I bought an orginal Manix and mini Manix....I ended up trading both of them because they were ce. I couldn't find a pe when I tried to find one of each back in 08'

when they were still for sale.
