Every now and then during their broadcast, Fox News shows segments displaying the standard gear for the Army soldiers and Marines.During the Marine segment, the soldier unsheathed what looked like a part serrated Kabar, but upon closer inspection, I noticed that the knife had a longer guard, with a ring on the top, like a bayonet. It also had a leather handle. Has anyone seen or heard anything about these?

Are you sure it wasn't just the standard issue M16 bayonet? I'll have to keep my eye out for it next time it's on...

Patriot,

I'm pretty sure it wasn't the standard M9.The blade shape was totally different. That's why I thought it was so odd.

Ontario is bringing out their new USMC bayonet shortly. It looks similar to a Kabar, with a longer blade and of course, the bayonet fixtures. I saw several variations at the Blade show and they are pretty cool.

Keep your eyes peeled for more information.

Yes they do have a new combat knife! It is the "Chris Reeve Green Beret". It has a black micarta handle and a 7 inch partially serrated black gun-kote cotated blade. The steel is SPM S30v stainless steel.Check it out at www.chrisreeve.com for more info.

There are a couple of different bayonets for the M-16, the M9, and another one that I don't know the name of. Our unit had them, but we never took them out. They were more of a double-edged Australian M-16 bayonet, and pretty old.

The green beret knife is for the green berets though, not the marines.

The Green Beret knife can be for anyone if they purchase the "civilian" version privately. True Green Berets receive a serial numbered GB only after they complete the "Q" course they need to graduate.
