It's called a pricker, actually. Like a marlingspike, but smaller and with a handle. It is used specifically for knotting and fancy work. Great for drawing up complex knots or working with smaller cord, even in hand stitching things like chafing gear of canvas.
1/4" Brass shank, spalted pecan handle I collected the wood from a buddy who had a tree go down. Turned, shaped, polished and finished by me. Overall is 5.25" and shank is 2 7/8".
This is a gift for a fellow forumite, along with a more traditional working spike. The other spike is not finished yet.
