Hello all, I've been lurking on here for awhile, and figured it was time to join. Once, the spring hits & I'm making more money I'll upgrade my membership. I'm a former 5 year navy vet (gunners mate) & I'm currently a jiu-jitsu practitioner/instructor.

I have a deep interest & respect for edged weapons, and currently own:
-Strider tarani ps karambit
-tops ferret neck knife w/rocky mountain grip
-cold steel neck knife
-tops tom brown tracker (watched the hunted to many times)
-just ordered the tops stryker defender knife

I would like to purchase a higher end knife. Damascus blade or other higher quality steel. I don't like to carry a firearm, though I own a few. I like neck knives, because they're easily accessible & don't get in the way. I live/work in some shady areas, so these is strictly for self defense, that I hope I'd never need to use.

I'm thinking about purchasing this neck knife from douglas knives, and wanted to get your feedback on it:

Also if you guys could recommend any other higher quality blades out there in the 200-500 dollar range I'm all ears. Thanks for your time:thumbup:

pitbull welcome to a fantastic place for knife lovers. i've carried knives in different places for 40 yrs. this is'nt exactly your question but my opinion. i like the waistband or pocket or even a small straight knife in a horizontal sheath on belt carry. most good quality tacts are certainly reliable enough [lock strength] to carry with clips. if you only like the straight knife it's hard to beat the horo. under loose shirt. we have many neckers on the forum & they can steer you to the good stuff if that's your perferance. as a martial arts pract. i think you will agree that even an untrained person whom is quick poses a serious threat. my 1st defense is awareness so after many yrs. i find the spydercos , sogs, & benchmades to be adequate. good luck in your quest.

Welcome to the forum, one knife I liked for SD and EDC was my Benchmade LFK, They are discontinued now but GREAT knives (in my opinion) I carry mines on a belt sideways. so its quickly reached and accessable.

Good luck with finding one you really like. :D

Dozier makes some of the finest knives you can get. He has some really nice knives made for SD. Living in Pa. and working shady areas why don't you want to carry a gun? That is a much better option for SD than any knife?

Thanks for the responses everyone. I spend alot of time in the city since I work as a union cement mason, and to carry a pistol isn't really feasible in a construction setting. Yes, being a martial artist I wouldn't like to really on a weapon, but I like to have it for piece of mind against multiple attackers & I just love to collect blades. Besides, the knives listed above I have a large collection of combat grade medieval reproductions including some one off pieces. Neckers are probably my favorite carry blade, but I do have some sheaths for my fixed blades that I can mount horizontally on a belt, etc...

I'll take a look at the dozier knives as well.

Ok, think I have the pictures figured out. Once, I get a sd card I can post up some pics of my current collection. These are the two neckers I'm now considering. A douglas & warren Thomas tanto necker. I have a modern tops ferret necker & a cold steel & wanted something in a japanese style. Anyone have any experience with these blades?

Really like these two. I'm very happy with my tops ferret. Once I added the rocky mountain grip & camo finish that sucker cost almost 200. I do want to buy one high end necker though, maybe even in damascus steel or carbon fiber/titanium. I'm waiting anxiously on my tops stryker defender tool as well. After carrying a necker for awhile now I think I'm down with folders & concealable fixed blades. Once, this snow melts I'll snag some pics of what I have. My camera won't work without a sd card.

Thanks for the response!

Welcome aboard my friend. this is a great place to learn, drool and share. hope you enjoy your stay.

Those are some Sweet knives my friend. Look around on the for sale exchange, there's some nice blades running around there. But hold on to your wallet, some knives are up there in price. Welcome and Enjoy,

Look what showed up today. Tops stryker defender tool. Looks good on my fake black marble countertop.
