I was looking around for a Kukri in late November and I heard HI was the place to go. I looked HI up and was tremendously impressed by both the ethics and product. I ordered a Kukri, which I've had for a little over a month now, and I cannot describe how pleased I am with the it. I just got around to taking some pictures so I though I'd put them up on the forum. It is a BAS made by Amtrak, and local pines, tulip poplars and hickories have already learned to fear it :D My friends were so impressed with the knife that two of them have already bough HI kukris (they both sharked a DOTD with their first post). My experience buying from HI was absolutely fantastic and I definitely see more Kukris in my future.

Nice! Thanks for posting pics. Haven't seen an Amtrak blade in a long time. I used to have a bunch of his stuff, but now am down to just three; a 20" 35 oz. AK, a 21" 29 oz. Chitlangi (my very first khukuri ever), and a 20" 22 oz. Kobra. He mostly went for larger blades so you have a relatively rare one here in this size.

Best regards,

Norm

Here's a couple more, until Rob figures it out.

This is indeed a good one, and an excellent first choice for an all-around khuk.

Rob.....
Did auntie tell you this was made by amtrack? The reason i question it is because he has not worked for H.I. in a very long time. It could be that the kami mark was recycled.

Karda,

Auntie did not tell me who made it. I assumed it was Amtrak based on the markings. I actually originally ordered an AK15 but Auntie told me that it was going to be a WHILE to get a knife from Nepal and sent me a BAS instead. I couldn't be more happy with it. I know Amtrak hasn't worked at HI for a while so I assumed that the knife may have been living in Reno for some time. If anyone knows if the kami mark has been recycled I'd love to hear about it.

Fastest way to get an answer on it, rob, is to email the pic with the kami mark in it to auntie and she will tell you who it is. She is the only one that really knows whos who. Otherwise we are waiting for one of the members who reads devanagari to tell us what the initials mean and then supposing from there.

Might be Shaila kami. It looks like the mark on my B-43. I'll try to confirm tonight. Take care and God bless.

Amtrak (Raju Rasili IIRC) did have the swastika (ancient religious symbol coopted by the Nazi's I should say), but I don't recall the sun symbol as well, and the devanagari "HI" were not on mine either I don't think. So you might be correct and this is a newer maker's mark.

I can check mine tonight.

Regards,

Norm

Yes, I confirmed Shaila. He made my B-43 (chiruwa Bhojpuri). I'm impressed by the quality and like his work. Take care and God bless.
