Good afternoon everyone,
I've been lurking around here for the past six weeks or so, and figured it was an appropriate time to become a member. This seems to be a very nice community - thank you for having me.
I had been searching a couple of months back for a small fixed blade knife to carry on my person for working purposes. I work in a hardware store where I regularly need to cut plastic and nylon bands off of lumber or plastic wrap off of pallets, etc. I could use a box cutter for this (and I still do sometimes) but a small knife would work better and I can use it for when I go camping, hiking, strolling in the park, carving and I'm sure I'll find other uses for it too. I chose a Becker BK14 after researching other options and comparing them. People seem to like them, they're a great size, have a great belly and tip for being so little and in general it's been a great little companion every day.
In fact I liked it so much that I went ahead and bought the BK24 too. Then last week I bought another BK14 to keep as a spare. This BK14 is an older one with a flat paint finish and stamped marks rather than the textured powder coat type finish with laser etched marks. I was a little bit worried about it being bent, I read here that a small batch of the older ones came out slightly bent from the stamping. Mine seems to be just fine, though.
I've been recently looking at some of the other Becker knives that I'd like to have in the future, like the BK9, 11, 16...as well as some of those Condor knives like the Nessmuk.
I've taken some pictures of the knives and the first and third knife sheaths I've made, the second didn't turn out very well so I scrapped it. I also would like to try my hand at making some leather sheaths and some wood scales sometime in the near future. I have some hickory and birch that would be nice, and I live a few blocks from a Woodcraft so some of their exotic hardwood blocks might be cool too.
About me, I'm 24, I'm a full time student (last semester
), I'm in the planning stage of asking a very special lady a very important question (it's been four years!), and I enjoy the things most of you seem to enjoy- cooking, knives, good beer, dogs, hiking, camping, archery and firearms.
Here are my Beckers.
