Hello,

I finally got my first 16' CAK and I love it very much. Very happy with Himalayan Imports and the quality of their knives.

I have a quick question about custom sheaths please. I'm happy with the sheath that comes with the Khukuri but I'd like to get a custom Kydex one for when I go camping and hiking. Does anyone here know of where I can get one done? Thanks in advance!

Mashed Cat is a great maker, but I like leather. Pugs75 here on the board does great work as well as Skystrom.

Dirtbiker, thanks for the info. I'll keep them in mind for sure. I'm still researching on different styles of custom sheaths for my CAK.

The easiest to access style is the partially open spine sheath, especially with a baldric carry option.

OK, bawanna's dumb question of the day. What's the baldric carry option, is that the double sling set up like Pugs does or am I not even on the right planet?

You got it Bawanna, the baldric carry has means to hook a shoulder strap too, if you see my rig for the KLVUK you will see the small d-rings for the strap to hook up

I like that a lot. As a full time sitter hanging on the belt like a man is not an option. A shoulder sling or attachment to the chair is the only option. Those rings would make that work fine.

Thanks for all the inputs guys. So I've decided to make the Kydex sheath myself. I've been accumulations materials and should be able to start working on it this weekend. I will post my progress for those who are interested in how I do it. Thanks!

It's always better to do it yourself if you have the time and skills.

One thing to keep in mind. I often read, in other subforums, that people's blades get scratched up from putting them in and out of kydex sheaths. HI blades are 5160 high carbon steel, which is pretty soft except for the differentially hardened edge. So if your CAK is one of the highly polished ones and you want to keep it that way, you might need some kind of plastic liner or other method of "softening" the inside of the kydex sheath.

You might also consider one of the KMFR open-spine leather sheaths that Yangdu sells for $20 each as fund raisers for kami medical expenses. They are a compact, flat design, well-suited for camping and hiking, and should be a good fit for a 16" CAK.

Hi davidf99, thanks for your input. I've also read of scratched blade from kydex sheaths and will look into a fix for that. Where can I find more information for the KMFR open-spine sheaths? Are there photos of what it looks like? Thanks for the help!

Thanks guys!!! In case I fail with the Kydex, I'd definitely be interested in the leather sheath!! I"ll keep everyone posted!
