Hey all.

I'm new to the forum but I've been lurking for a couple of years. I finally got a computer that isn't connected to my job. I started looking into vintage axes after my wife gave my cherished plumb to the neighbor kid to chop out a stump. Needless to say, I was pretty annoyed with the wife. I thought I would try to share some photos of what I've found since then. Mostly I've been collecting Kelly Works double bits.

So far I found a couple of Kelly Perfects, a Lippincott, a Flint Edge, a Flint Edge cruiser, a 4 lb Red Warrior, a Dynamic, and a Falls City.

Well, it seems that I'm having a hard time attaching photos. I'll see if I can figure out how and attach them later. If anybody has any hints for attaching pictures please pass them along. I've been looking forward to becoming a member of Blade Forums for quite while.

You need to have the photos hosted somewhere (photobucket, or similar) - then you use the image tool to embed the URL.

Great sounding collection. I look forward to seeing it. Welcome to BladeForums!

Welcome.

I've just posted recently for the first time after lurking and learning a while. Quite a few options for putting up photos. Unless you're a paid up member you'll need to use a photo hosting site. Imgur worked well for me - after joining, upload your photo, then copy the 'BBC Code' (for message boards and forums) provided into your post.
Be good to see pics of the double bits, especially the cruiser. Regards.

Let's see if this works.

Yep - one by one.

Make sure you select images, rather than album at top right of main page. Then click or press twice on the image you want Don't click on the paint easel or X (delete) button. The image should appear in a separate pop up window with lots of link options specific to that image, including BBC code. Copy this in to your message.

My album settings are all hidden or secret but the images still show here.
Hope this helps.

Nice collection. I like that cruiser on the left side. It looks like you run across more double bits than single bits.

I just like double bits the best. Some people don't like them for splitting firewood, but I think they're the best. They're balanced so you get good accuracy, and you can get a 3.5 lb head moving really fast. If the wood grain is fairly straight, I can split wood faster than a 6 or 8 lb maul. After the piece is split, you can use a sharp double bit to pick up the pieces and put it back on the chopping block. You can't do that with a maul. It saves you a lot of bending over.

The cruisers are great all-around axes. You can't beat them for limbing firewood logs. The're so accurate you can take off 2" limbs with a single stroke. I always take my cruisers for cutting Christmas trees too. it's way easier than using a saw.

Maybe you listed it. I'm a sucker for a nice axe head. Especially one that rare. I' very happy to have it.

Pakowhai and Liamstrain;

Thanks for the help on posting photos. It's tough to ask for help if you can't show the problem. You guys ROCK!
