Hello All,
I just wanted to say hello and thank you. Thank you for all of the awesome information so many of you have posted regarding the Becker knives!
I've been wearing a BK11 around my neck literally every day for over three years now. It's probably closer to 4 and maybe might even be past 4 at this point. I can't remember crap anymore and it seems to just get worse as I get older. Haha! Anyways, I have always loved the knife. It's never failed me and I am fairly hard on my tools.
Last Christmas, I showed my wife several knives that I thought she might like for a survival blade. She chose the BK2 on my recommendation even though I hate to admit I had never really put one to good use before. The BK2 really gave me a glimpse of what I've been missing out on. I LOVE THIS KNIFE. I can't take it because it's hers so I've been stuck using it to split firewood and man, the thing is a tank. I am kind of a hard-use kind of guy. I don't like breaking tools but I do use them and use them harder than most. The BK2 is just a beast.
Recently, I've been doing a lot of research looking for a solid, extremely capable camp knife and because of my experience with the BK2, I wanted to take a good look at the Becker line. It didn't take long to decide that the knife I would be getting would be a Becker and I narrowed the choices down to the BK7 and BK5. My wife and I are relocating our family to some remote property in the Pacific Northwest were we will be building our own home, raising and growing our food, and completely living off of the grid. I need a capable camp knife that I will literally be wearing all day every day and after much thought, research, and 2nd guessing myself (haha) before starting over and making the same decision all over again, I've put a BK5 on order
. It's going to clean game and fish, do some light batoning for kindling, skin varmints, spark firesteels, cut vegetables, be used in the garden and kitchen, and pretty much get the hell used out of it. That's my intentions for this knife. I believe that it is the crossroads of durability, capable edge, weight, and quality that I need.
I plan on keeping these forums up to date on my progress and tests of the knife and I'll be blogging about them as well. Once again, thank you so much because all of you (even the occasional troll) has really been a resource.
Happy Holidays
