Hi everyone, thought I'd introduce myself. After carrying several brands of folding knives in the backcountry over the years, I finally took the plunge and started looking around for a fixed blade knife for this summer. Originally, the Becker BK2 had caught my eye, but I wasn't sure if the weight and thickness was really suited for my needs. I was also looking at the ESEE knives, in particular the 4" model, which I was able to handle in store and found it to be almost exactly what I wanted; however they wanted almost $170 CDN for it! I just wasn't able to justify pulling the trigger on it. I then stumbled onto something called a "tweener". So I've been lurking around this forum for a few months, reading anything and everything I could about them. Finally decided to purchase a BK16 from Amazon. Let me say I was greatly impressed! I instantly loved everything about it; the ergos were great, it came razor sharp out of the box, and the value couldn't be beat. I even liked the sheath. Since I got it, I've only been able to get out twice this summer to use it; a week in Jasper National Park with the family, and a weekender backpacking trip with a buddy. I processed wood for fire and lit the tinder, de-barked a tree limb for my daughter to use as a hiking stick, whittled and made meals. Needlesss to say it held up to everything I put it through effortlessly. I am greatly impressed with the Becker brand, and I see now why all of you are so passionate about them...

As for mine, I haven't done too much modifications to it. I took some 00 steel wool to the blade to smooth up the coating. I notched the spine in front of the jimping for striking a firesteel. I made some liners from a dollar store cutting board and replaced the screws with stainless steel. I really enjoy using this knife, and can foresee this being the first of many Beckers to come...

And, since I've gathered you're all picture fiends, here's some from my summer...(hope these work)

Well for goodness sakes come on in the house and make yourself at home. Now that you've posted this we will expect more like it four or five times a week. Love it.

Welcome to or little corner of the internet. Great photos from a very beautiful area. Always love to see some 16 actions. One of my favorite BKs. Excited to see which becker you pickup next.

Welcome. What a great first post and first knife. The pictures are awesome. Hope to see more like it. Now grab a 9 and a 14/24 and you will be set.

Hey thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Glad you all enjoyed the pics. I'm really liking your little corner of the web so far; other forums I've frequented in the past so often degenerate into name-calling and mud-slinging to get their points across. I haven't seen any of that in all the post I've browsed. I'll be sure to frequent and post here in the future. Maybe not five times a week, but...

You should have seen dinner the first night - a backpacking Pad Thai concoction with some "Beckerized" matchstick carrots I made up. After slogging thru the bush all day that tasted like the best meal I've ever eaten 😊

Welcome. What a great first post and first knife. The pictures are awesome. Hope to see more like it. Now grab a 9 and a 14/24 and you will be set.

Actually my daughter was already eyeing my 16; I eventually promised her a knife of her own when she gets a little older. A 14 or 24 might make a perfect first knife for little hands. And what is this 9 you speak of?😉Does anyone really need a 9?😉

EVERYONE needs a 9! You can't not have a 9!:D

I really believe you can do anything knife related with a 16+9 combo.I edc my 24 but if I had to pick just one knife to carry for the rest of my life the 16 would be it.
The 9 is very capable of handling big jobs and is a beast. But, the 16 is awesome at almost everything.

Haha I hear ya. We were bushwackin' trying to find an old abandoned fire lookout, and I really needed something to hack thru all the overgrowth. Never did make it up there, but I'm sure a 9 or a machax would've helped out a lot. Hmm, decisions, decisions...

Wow, welcome to the forum! Breathtaking photos, nice looking dog (is it an akita?), and your little girl is very cute too! :) Oh, and nice 16, I like the setup you have with the knife and seath.
