Just found this forum and am checking in. I kind of run hot and cold on the subject of combat knives, and feel myself getting interested again. I've collected and made knives off and on for many years. I quit making them about 18 years ago, and only have a small collection now. I'm currently looking for a nice Fairbairn-Sykes 2nd model. Anyone have one for sale or have a line on one? My favorite combat knives are the M3 trench knife, the FS commando, and the Randall 1,2, and 14 (I think it's the 14, anyway the one called the "Attack.") The most interesting knife I currently own is a one-of-a-kind Draper that I had Draper make for me back in the mid-60s. It is based on the V-42, but is heavier. (Sorry, I don't have photo capabilities.) (Note to Greg: Hi, long time no talk. Check out my new book from Paladin--Leigh)

Hey, I'll do that.

How are ye?

Yep, the 14 is also titled the Attack.

Just workin' these days.

Welcome wlf, if you're looking for a specific knife you could try posting in the "Knives Wanted to Buy" section of this website, under the "Exchange" section. I've had good luck there before. What sort of knives did you make? Hunters, fighters, folders? Always nice to see someone with a knifemaker's perspective join the forums.

My main interest has always been combat knives. When I was making them back in the 80s I was a little ahead of my time. At that time the "tactical" euphemism hadn't been invented yet, so every one called combat knives "survival" knives. So-called "art knives" and "fantasy knives" were the hot item. What's his name in Arkansas was making big bucks with that rediculous Rambo knife. My knives and philosophy were pretty close to what Strider is doing these days. I don't really think that a "fighter" and a combat knife are the same thing, but I also like fighters and bowies and made a few of them too. I was trying to develop a small, general purpose combat knife, something like a boot knife or chute knife, but with some utility to it. My output was small--don't think I ever made more than fifty knives. Then my marriage broke up, my ex ended up with my tools, and that was the end of that.
