Hey there, I am new to the forum. I have been collecting since I was a kid with my grandfather. He has since passed and I have all of our knives. I have about 300-350 shrade walden folders, 2 dozen or so old Case, several fixed blades. Anyone else out there a Schrade Walden collector?

well, duh, this the the place where we have all lost our minds, most of our money, to collecting these works (some are art).

Yeah I guess I was kind of being sarcastic. Browsing through it looks like y'all have some great knives!

Glad you found the spot, perhaps the friendliest neighborhood bar on the internet.

I collect original USA Old Timers; the first was given to me by my grandfather. We never collected together, but my grandfather had a cigar box full of knives that he would take down and show us kids. I suppose that's how I became interested in collecting.

Ill be honest. I know very little about the knives and he didn't know a whole lot. We mainly collected because we both loved pocket knives and our last name is Walden so it seemed fitting.

Hope to learn a lot more from the forum and so far I have!

Welcome! We like pics. Bring 'em on!

I pulled out some of the knives and took some photos. I only took pics of the schrade waldens, some of them are case and other custom knives, I have two 24x12 display cases in storage but didn't pull them out sorry! They are mostly random knives, nothing special more sentimental. Also have some nice fixed blade waldens but I am not sure where I stuck them at, might be in the gun safe. Some of them have the story of who they came from. I also have several custom made knives. A good friend of mines father handmakes knives and me made me one a few years ago I'll try to find a picture. I also just got one the other day out of knoxville that is really slick. Here is my everyday knife, an 896k. Been carrying it for about 6 years now.

What are some noteable ones that I should check to see if I have. Like I said, we collected them when I was a kid (10 yo or so) so I knew nothing about the knives. As I got older I'd always look for them at garage sales flea markets gun and knife shows etc. I know I have some that aren't worth much but am curious to know if I have any valuable ones. I jusy never seemed to get educated about them nor did my grandpa. I don't plan on selling them since they are sentimental. But am just curious to what I have

I figured if ask because this is one of the only outlets I've stumbled across where people are knowledgeable on the schrade waldens. I will try to go through and write down what I have which I need to do anyways. Started to tackle that a long time ago but I never finished.

The first thing to look for are handles of genuine bone. These (generally) will be worth considerably more than their DuPont Delrin plastic counterparts, assuming that they are in nice condition. Next would be tang stamps with the word "Walden," items with jimped liners, and threaded bolsters. These are all pre-1960 (pre-plastic), for the most part. If the master blade does NOT have the pattern number, this also is suggestive of early 1950s rather than late 1950s knives. Then I would also consult this link:

As for specific values, your best bet is to go to completed ebay listings. Discussions of specific values is a no-no on this forum.

I know everyone has walden on it, I have to dig through them and see exactly what they have. Hope I didn't break any rules, when I said value I was meaning if I had any rare ones. Thanks for the help!

We figured that is what you meant. We won't rat you out. :)

Keep showing us knives!
