Mods please excuse me if I am not posting this in the correct place. I am still relatively new to the forum world and brand new to this forum.
I just joined bladeforums.com but have been reading posts/discussions on here for quite some time. I have been an on and off knife collector my whole life and just recently have gotten back into it and have really jumped in head first this time. In the past few months I have bought three knives that are in the $200-$400 price range (which I am starting to learn are still not "expensive" knives). The following story may be a little long but I am still excited about it and have to tell someone who understands since none of my friends will spend more then $70 on a knife, bitching about that much the whole time, I figured I would share it here.
I went to my local knife store today to "just look". I am starting to learn that I can't go and "just look" no matter what I tell myself (hopefully I am not the only one with this problem). I do a couple of laps around the knife counter before I finally ask to look at a knife. I got him to let me fondle a Microtech DOC and I have to say that I really don't like that knife. The blade shape and grind are weird and it is bulky with an awful clip and even worse clip location. The store guy agreed and we moved on.
We kept chatting and I moved on to a few cheaper Kershaws I have been eyeballing. In the same section of the case below the Kershaw knives are the Zero Tolerance knives and I have been waiting for them to get the 0560 black washed version so I could play with it and possibly purchase. They had it today so I played with it and was within a breath of saying I was ready to purchase it and he said "you want to see something I've only shown one other customer so far?". Hell Yeah! He disappears into the back and comes back out with more zt0560bw boxes and I'm thinking whats so special? He goes on to tell me that ZT accidentally sent him 3 of the 0560bw boxes that actually contained the 0777-m390blk. What!?! I thought and said that certainly he was sending them back to ZT and he said "I called and pointed out there mistake and they told me to keep them and sell them as I saw fit." My second thought and question was that surely the first person he showed them to had reserved them and was coming back to purchase them. He said yes that two of the three were reserved. How much are you letting them go for? "345.99" and before I knew I said it I told him I would take the third. I had been drooling over these knives online already and had come close to pushing the buy it now button on ebay several times at almost twice that price. So I am not the proud new owner of a bad ass knife seen in the pictures below (including the tag on the box labeled 0560bw).
