Hi guys, just wanted to say G'day from down under, apologies if this is the wrong section to post this, I am still learning how to use forums. So I have been interested in HI khukuris for a while and have been using a KLVUK around my property for cutting small trees and other tasks, it has proved to be an extremely useful and durable tool. I have been looking at other HI blades and decided I would like to purchase an AK Bowie. Also thank you for all the valuable information I have managed to find through this forum it has been a great pleasure reading some of the posts.

Gday or maybe Gnight depending on what time it is where you are, here it be night time and welcome.

Lord knows we can't have enough Steve's around here. Sack full of em around here and friends every single one of em.

I have no doubt you'll be added to the list of friends, aw heck your already added, one more thing off the list ya know?

As of last week or the week before Auntie still had a few of the micro bowies about if that's the bowie you speak of. I can't say for some of the larger version.

Mid day here in Thailand at the moment, Steve must be a common name in the blade world, I've personally met about 4-5 in Australia who are knife dealers. Those small Bowies look really cool however I was actually after one of the big bad arse Bowie knives I think it would be an awesome meat cleaver. Also I'm heading to India and Nepal in a few week, do you know if it's possible to visit any of the workshops where these beautiful khukuris are made?

Welcome Steve!

I moved your post here from the showroom floor and edited it for sales content. If you want to buy something from the members themselves, the proper place for such postings is the "want to buy" section of the Exchange forum. Sales here are restricted to HI only.

Sadly, no : http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/806521-Regarding-Himalayan-Imports-Shop-Visits

Wow! That is an impressive collection of Bowies, what have you used them for? Have you chopped up meat before with the 15"? I'm assuming with the weight behind it it would have no problem breaking through even the toughest bones. And for reference the 15" are the three similar ones in the middle?

Sawasdee khrap, mate! You're hanging out in the most important portion of the entire Blade Forum and it's sub-forum, the Cantina. Hope you'll stick around and give Karda a hand keeping Bawanna in line. The rest of us are literal angels, but you know...there's one in every crowd. If he gets too much for you, let me know. These long distance shock collars are great little toys.

What the heck are you doing up at 2:34 AM. That's long past your bedtime.

I'll be good, really I will.

Yes those three are the 15" AKB's. Ive used them for whacking up small game like chickens, rabbit, etc and they are great. They have plenty of weight for that. There has been plenty of discussion regarding their use in cutting bones. Even the "Bonecutter" is not suitable for cutting like cow bones etc. Some say you can do it but it would definitely void any warranty. I havent tried it but I feel pretty sure you could whack through a whole thanksgiving turkey given the chance. For the bigger bones I feel like there would be no problem busting them up with the spine of the knife to get to the marrow. Yum!!! The shorter AK's are great knives as well but the weight limits their chopping ability as expected. Overall they do have the feel of a big cleaver and Id recommend the big 15" for meat whacking anyday!

I've found my MMB even suitable for small game, only done rabbits and squirrels but it did the job quite well.

welcome to the forum, I am sure you will find your time here beneficial to your knifing hobbies!
