Hello all,

I am new to this forum and I have always carried at least a SAK since I was a little boy. Now I just carry a bigger SAK. I am on other forums but having trouble navigating on this one. I am trying to find info out on a Custom Damascus bowie from Brett Martin. See pics. Any help with history info or value would be great. Thanks in advance.

Hi sir Mike -

I see quite a few "Brett Martin" knives on ebay, camel bone and 1095/15n20 high carbon 512 layer damascus.

They look like hand made knives from overseas, perhaps India? I am guessing based on my past purchases of camel bone / 512 layer damascus knives.

Welcome to the forum, and your knife is a beauty, thanks for the picture.

Thanks for the welcome.

I got the knife on trade and the guy I got it from didnt know much about it and I hate not knowing anything about this knife so just asking around. I was gonna use it in my BOB but I think it is alittle big for me so looking for a smaller fixed knife to use. It is about 13 1/2 inches with about 8 1/4 inches full blade length from the handle so actually blade about 7 1/2 inches.

Hi Mike -

I would keep that one for display or "special use", it is a very beautiful knife in my opinion.

Keep a little oil on the blade, as it may rust. My experience with damascus of that sort is that it will take a very good edge, but it is not very rust resistant.

I am only going on my assumptions about your knife, I have no experience with Brett Martin.

For a BOB, I would put something less showy in the kit and keep something like the knife in your picture available for display and even use when I wanted to use and enjoy something a little special.

best regards -

What is the best oil to use? I should keep it cause it does look cool but the only reason I got it was for my BOB and it is too big for that so I need to sell it to find me a smaller fixed blade to put in the BOB.

Thanks for the replies and comments!

I read the thread but didnt see exactly where the cabin is located! I am not sure if I could go but would like to know where it is at so I can think about it, at least for a short time!

Thx.
