Hello, i'am a new member from France, interested in chris reeve knives, american custom knives and automatics, but i'am really happy to see a living forum about straight razors ;)
i'm french, live in Paris and i'm 43. i first try when i was 25 to shave with a straight razors without satisfying results and lot of skin irritation, then i tried a second time when my older son began himself to shave. i'm now a fan and use it daily, it transform shaving in a real moment of pleasure and coolness.
i have a modest collection of razors but i'm interested in knowing more about americans manufacturers, actuals or from the past;
i'll be in the USA this summer for holidays and still have a 'wish list' about knives, but not enough knowledge, yet, about americans straight razors.
thanks

I'm not sure that there are any American manufacturers of straight razors... but we have a growing number of custom knife makers who are making excellent and very artistic straight razors.

Please tell us when your trip to America will be so that we can see if there will be a good custom knife show on while you are here.

This is a good site as there are a number of straight razor users and makers on here. Did you know there is also a forum for razors? straightrazorplace.com is the address, you should check it out but also come back here as some of the knife makers make razors and don't post on that site. Also, I would say that the person who could answer most of your questions is Butch (Lloyd Richard Harner III), he has been making straight razors for a long time. Good luck.

Thank you very much for the advices.
I'am sure to have seen in the past a 'Case' signed razor, due to the 'authenticity' i feel with this knifemaker/brand, so 'american' from my point of vue, i would like definitly own one. But it's not exclusivenof any interesting other piece. For the moment i will not seek/ buy a very expensive custom razor ( so much old ones to be re-birth and saved) . .

I have now the minimal skills to restore honestly and old razor if not too much attacked by rust. I'll be in the US for a trip to las vegas, then the californian coast from july 10th to 28th. Expensive holidays, once in a life in fact, but i yet have a budget to bring back an american made knife. Or two ;) if my inquiries about customs at the airport reply, i'll bring may be some regionals french knives to trade, if i meet a Knife show on the road, i don't know.

Razors are a kind of 'continuation' of my interest in knives, but i discovered a whole world of 'customizing' my own shaving depending the time i have, the finish i want depending the hour of the day or simply the specific tool, depending its hown shape this day, i want to use at the moment. And such a 'clean' feeling after i never found before with any high tech piece of plastic multibladed. Like golf, it reflects your state of mind at the moment, but every straight razor user knows these feeling. .

Thanks again

W. L. Buck Co. of Oklahoma is a Straight Razor maker and uses Blue steel. He makes some very handsome straights. DM
