I've just joined here so looking forward to being an active member.

I'm looking to purchase my first knife grinder and have seen these two on e.bay and wondered if anyone could give me their thoughts, please

If I understand correctly you do live in the UK (or in the EU generally), right?

I was also looking for a belt grinder in the EU, so i came across a solution or two, i can send you the links when i get home from work

Work sharp, tormek, wicked edge, apex pro. I wouldn’t buy a belt grinder.

He didn't say that it would be for sharpening, just that he wanted a knife grinder.

I read that as he wants to grind on and make knives. This will work just fine for sharpening, if it is variable speed.
