Hello :)

My name is Justin - I am from Connecticut, USA. I have always had a few cheap knives that I have enjoyed/used (Japanese/Chinese budget blades etc) - but I have since been eyeing some "real" blades. A coworker let me handle his Chris Reeves knife today and I was extremely impressed. Not sure if I am going to drop that kind of coin right off the bat - but it definitely got me searching for more online and really peaked my interest.

So I made an account here to read up and learn from those who know more etc.

I have been a regular on CPF (candle power forums) for around 2-2.5 years... I have amassed quite a large collection in fact. Used to be into high end watches and cars... but not as much anymore as it got too expensive.

Some more about me - I am 28 years old, married, and I am a Licensed Land Surveyor by trade. I also dabble with quite a bit of Civil Engineering as well.

Thats enough about me ! lol

Welcome to the Forums man, you'll learn a ton here. Nice to see people interested in the hobby.
For a first 'real' knife, I always recommend the Spyderco Tenacious. A step up from Spydercos Chinese "Budget line" would be the Spyderco Delica in VG-10

Thanks! I'll definitely check those out!

If you could give us some requirements for a first knife that you want (Grind Style, Steel-Liners, Scale material, Fixed blade or folding blade) We could give you a better suggestion that fits your likings

Hey Justin-Welcome to BF! Where are you in Ct? My work puts me in contact with a lot of engineers in the N.W. corner.I tend toward the old school traditional knives but I've carried just about everything in my 61 yrs. Check out the Traditional sub forum. I guess I,m an old school kind of guy anyway. Enjoy your time here. It's surprising sometimes the depth of knowledge on this forum.--KV

Welcome. I'm sort of 180 out from you. Been way into knives but just bought my first really nice flashlight. Well, CRKs are great knives. You can't go wrong with the quality. In the Spyderco price range, another one to check out is Benchmade. They are close to Spyderco, but I think Spyderco has more options IMHO. But Benchmade is good and has good customer service. If you want a more tactical folder you really can't beat Zero Tolerance. They are an off-shoot of Kershaw. I've loved every ZT I've owned.
You will know you have it really bad when you think a grand for the custom "grail" knife you always wanted is just not too bad!!!
Have fun.

What light did you buy? I have several lights in the $400-$900 range so I understand "grail"!

I got a McGizmo Aquaram. Hard to hate it. I'm looking for something smaller also, but I've looked on CPF and am just lost 95% of the time. I was thinking I would just settle for a Lenslight Mini. I guess I'm too lazy to do the research!! So, if you have recommendations I'd appreciate it.
