Greetings, just joined the forum.

Here's the back-story on how I arrived here:
Many years back, I bought an Edge Pro sharpening system. As it turns out, my kitchen knives need sharpening so rarely, that it sits around collecting dust most of the time. About a week ago, I said to myself, I really need to start using that since sharpening skill fades with lack of practice.

Since I use your basic Stanley utility knives several times a week (and I'm constantly replacing those blades), a few days ago I came to the realization that I could replace those with a sharpenable knife that I could always have with me, and which would also satisfy my urge to use the Edge Pro more often. (I'll probably need a few, so at least one is always sharp)

Prior to a few days ago, the last time I shopped for pocket knives was probably in the early 1980's. I was given a CRKT KISS knife about 8 years ago, but I hated it and it just sits in a drawer. Over the past few days of searching online, I've just been amazed at the vastness of knives available these days, and the number of detailed knife reviews available.

Excitement got the better of me and I've already bought an inexpensive starter knife (an Ontario RAT 2), which I promptly decided I should try to improve the edge (and promptly realized that sharpening small knives is a lot more challenging in certain ways than large kitchen knives). Anyway, that's the extent of my knife "collection."

It's sort of a backward way to arrive here, but that's my story. My initial interests for joining the forum are to get advice on improving my sharpening skills on small knives using the Edge Pro (there must be some tricks to learn, and maybe some DIY jigs to build), and to learn about various knives (I think I'll stick with small, 3-inch or less for now) so I can find my next purchase(s).

Welcome to BFC jalapeno !!!!!!!!
Yeah, things in the knife world has changed since the 80's. Go check out the Maintenance, Tinkering, Embellishment forum. Lots of good stuff to read and learn.
Before you know it, you'll be posting pics of your collection. That ain't a bad thing.

Welcome to BF.com.

You will find that the RAT series are solid buys and worth every cent.

Thanks for the welcome.

I have a question for moderators:
how come my intro post got moved to the "community center" but the half dozen other new member intro posts from yesterday (in the general knife discussion subforum) did not get moved? Did I say something wrong?

Community Center is the proper place for such posts. Welcome to BF and hold onto your wallet as the purchases just keep a coming.
