Hey all. I'm a new member. I've been lurking for quite some time. I recently went through some boxes my late father had in our storage room and found some boxes of SAK and a couple Chinese knock offs. I have figured out,the make and model of most of the knives, but two, that I can tell were used are stumping me. One is a cheap Chinese copy, I'm not overly concerned with it being as it is well used and the blades have rust on them. There is a SAK that is identical to a recruit. With the can opener, bottle opener, and one and a half inch blade... But, the large 2 & 1/2 inch main blade is fully serrated.
There is no box, and it has light scratching on the red plastic. I was told today by a local "knife expert", I was foolish for carrying the knife as it is supposed to be discontinued and is highly sought after. I asked him how much it was worth, he told me a lot. I asked what he wanted to buy it for, he said he would buy it because I was actively carrying it....whatever. I don't want to sell it, as it was one of the ones he carried and enjoyed... I would like to know if I should put it away as a keepsake if it is honestly something that is a rare piece.
Thank you for any info you can provide. I have looked over the forum and the SAK website looking for the model of this knife...there are a lot of blades made by Swiss army knife.
I've enjoyed looking around the forums. There is so much info here...It's really great. I'm also making quit w the Christmas list for my wife to look through. There is a lot of custom pieces I've been drooling over!
Thanks again

No sir. None at all, only the large and small blades, can, and bottle openers. Only the large blade is serrated. It does have the tweezers and tooth pick as well. I emailed victorinox about it about a week ago. I haven't received a reply. I can say, the serrations are extremely sharp. I've received two small cuts in the last hour messing with it looking for any type of model number...I Have a couple spyderco knives that don't have serrations that are that wicked....lol

I'm learning they named serrated blades after mountains. I can't seem to find an example of the recruit with a fully serrated blade OR a "mountain name". Was it just called a "serrated recruit"? Should I discontinue carrying it? I have a plain recruit as well. I just really enjoy the serrations.

It does seem to be rare as by other sources, but their have been a few sold on the bay recently and they where only going for around $15.00. Its hard to say how rare it really is. My opinion on it would be this. If it is excellent condition or NIB they hold onto it. If it is not then use the bad boy. Just my opinion though.

My Dad has a serrated recruit that he carried for years until he retired and found a need to have a corkscrew on his person ;) Knowing that I collect knives, especially ones that family members have carried, he keeps trying to give it to me, but I want him to hold on to it. I believe he picked his up sometime in the late 90s (but I could be mistaken), however that should give you an idea about the timeframe of manufacture.

Thanks for the replies. I'll post a picture tomorrow. We drove all day to be with family tonight. Again, Thanks for the replies!

These are the photos. Really is something I enjoy...enough so, Im going to try to get the whole "serrated mountain" collection soon.

I think I'm going to go ahead and buy one off eBay, along with some of the others that are serrated too. I'm going to put away my father's.
