Hi, Craig.

I met you at the Del Mar Gun Show in California, and was so impressed by your stuff that I ordered a 20 inch Sirupati, though from another knife dealer (your product, though). In fact, I started crusing the net and bought two more Khukuris, both from people that travel frequently to Nepal. Though the finish isn't up to your standards, they are definitely from Nepal and very much above the "dreck" from India and Pakistan that is being passed as "Gurkha Military". I have been a knife and sword collector for over 20 years and it only took me a few days to realize the quality that makes a genuine Khukuri.

One of my knives is very much like your Mini and the other looks like your Cheetlang, though only 15 inches in length and weighs only 15 ounces. The people I bought it from called it a "Chainpure" and it has what you called a chianpure type handle and buttcap. I was also told that both of these knives were purchased in the Annapura region of Nepal.

However, I just wanted to place the blame for my new found addiction on the proper person. You really shouldn't have been so friendly and informative.

Welcome to the forum DD. You have certainly arrived at the right place and, it would seem, are placing the blame on the right person. One day I too was just minding my own business, found myself talking to Craig and woke up the next day with a Khukuri addiction. You are among friends here, we understand what you're going through.

Our little therapy group is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The other guys will be stopping by to welcome you. You'll find that we're all just like you; honest & decent folks who have strayed from the path of straight & narrow knives (and couldn't be happier about it).

Before I go, it's my duty to tell you the rules of this forum. There are only 3

(1) All are welcome here.
(2) All subjects except those promoting porn & hatred are open for discussion.
(3) Have a good time.

Blackdog,

Thank you for the welcome. As I said, I have been collecting and using edged tools for over 20 years. It just took me by surprise when I found out what this little "curved knife" was all about.

What really got to me was the complexity of the construction. Instead of a flat piece of metal I found some really nice grinding (or forging, I don't really know enough about the making process) and imaginative engineering. Everything seems to strike a balance with weight reduction, balance, and strength. I have honestly never seen a knife with the weight-to-size ration as the Nepalese Khukuri, though some of my western court/small swords feel very much the same.

Obviously I like these little things!

PS Does anyone know where I can get a scabbard? I have a Chianpure Khukuri (about the size of a 15 inch Sirupati), purchased cheap because it lacked same. Thanks.

You obviously need to go to the [Gurkha House] web page and order the "Making of" video.

Wright Knives is our dealer in SoCal, so I hope you got at least one from him. We'll be shutting down for Christmas, but look forward to a new year with lots of excitement. That reminds me - our shipment is in today, and we're off to pick it up. We've got the Jungle SN1s, one or two afghan classics, and even a reiger khukuri or two (if my memory serves me).
