Well I pretty much joined here at BF just so I could take part in the discussions here on the Becker forums. I was taken with Becker fever really bad a couple weeks ago.
I got a BK16 last week, ordered some kydex from azwelke before the thing even showed up, and right out of the box i stripped the coating.
I love how it feels, and already have put it through some tasks out in the woods.
Here's my problem, one of the scales doesn't sit on the knife quite right. It is not flush with the tang, it sits below so on the top of the knife on the right side, there is a few millimeters of steel exposed, and obviously on the bottom, the scale comes down farther then the steel. There also seems to be some space between the steel and the scales (again, this is only on one side) Anyone had this happen?
Would it be worth buying some new scales, or contacting kabar?

This little setback has done nothing to cure my BK fever. I have a BK14 on the way, and plans for a 9 or a 7 probably next week, if I can hold off that long.....
Heck I can already see a 2, 17, 15, 11, and 24 in my future too.

Congrats on the new knife!

Have your tried loosening the scales and trying to line them up better? Just loosen them up till they move freely and try to line them up with your hand. Then snug the bolts back up.

Sometimes they need a little bit of tuning.

1. Loosen the screws a bit
2. Fiddle with the scales until they match
3. Tighten the screws
4. ???
5. Profit!

You're welcome! And welcome to the forum as well. Stick around, read along, participate, and have a good time.

Thanks guys. That was easy. I feel a bit like an idiot now... My noobish ways will hopefully wear off.

Don't worry about it. I'm still so new I squeak when I turn around. Besides, think how boring life would be if everyone were perfect.

No big deal bud. I got an orange Izula 2 on a group buy. The scales were wonky like someone put them together while sipping some Jack D. I popped the screw thread seal, dabbed a bit more Loctite, then reset them. Better than new now.

You can't skip any Becker!!!! But I understand your enthusiasm.:D

Congrats on the 16. Is is a super great knife!! You will enjoy it!

Understood. Maybe I should have said pass on it for now. Really, with a 12, I no longer see much of a need for the 10 or 7. In all honesty, I was slightly disappointed by the 12 at first, but once I got use to the old style grivory (having only been exposed to kabar style) it's been all good.

Nice. In all honesty, the 12 will be the last in the lineup I will buy. I am well on the way to owning 1 of each, but I find myself giving them to family members or doubling/tripling up on some way more than I expected when I first started buying the Beckers. My intent was to have a 2, 14 and 16 and call it good. That didn't work at all. I need at least one of each (for myself) to be satisfied. If you stick around, you will too. :)
