Hello,

I'm retired and have an interest in knives, so I've been reading the forum for the last week. First I wanted to replace my lost Camillus that had a ?3.5"? drop-point blade. The one thing I didn't care for with the Camillus was that it was heavy.

I ended up buying a CRKT Ron Lake Signature because it had similar shape and size but was much lighter.

I'm a drummer and guitarist and have usually bought quality instruments that were currently out of fashion. So I played Fender Jazzmasters and Jaguars when nobody valued them and sold them when they came back into style.

I'd like to do something similar with knives, learning by buying good quality at unfashionable prices. For instance when I found a place selling the CRKT Ron Lake Model for less than they were selling on ebay, I bought the last 14 they had figuring that when the glut of discontinued stock passed the price would move back up to around $40. In the meanwhile I can hopefully trade some so that I can handle a variety and learn the different makers. Eventually I'll take the plunge on some of the upper end knives that I'm already drooling over.

Thanks for reading this and I appreciate the advice.

Welcome to BF. Here's a warning though, be prepared to spend alot of time here, and even more for all those future purchases. Yes knives tend to be an addiction.

Welcome!

Now, just wait until you discover customs.

A $40 CRKT will be pennies in comparison!

It will not take much exposure to the forum, before all the retirement funds are gone. It is an addiction, just one more to get the fix you need.

Welcome,
James
