Hello all.
I've been looking for a decent camp knife suitable for heavy abuse as well as camp chores. I have several including Becker, Bark River, Benchmade, and a Swamp Rat HR on the way.

A2 BRKT's seem to work fine for me but I have the itch to punish some D2.

What I'd like to know is, how does the Ontario RAT knives in D2 compare to Dozier or Swamp Rat knives (D2, not SR101).

The price seems very good and I've done a search but haven't found much in regards to the Ontario RAT where the steel or durability is concerned.

Thanks,

Rupe

Anyone?
If no one has any info I'll be forced to buy the Ontario RAT and post my own review. :p :D

There is nothing like being "forced" to buy a knife. I have also been looking at getting a RAT in D2. I have heard both good and bad about there heat treating and the blade being too soft. Do a forum search on a RAT-7 you should come up with some intersting reads. Bye the way welcome to BF!:D

I think that if I were going to seriously abuse the knife, I'd go for the 1095 steel version instead of the D2. My guess is that the D2 would be more likely to chip out, and it would be a serious pain in the neck to grind out the chips from D2 without power tools. The 1095 would probably be much easier to perform large scale field repairs on.
