Hello, from a new member.I own two randall's,a model 14,and a model 26,both gifts from my father. The 14 was presented to me upon graduation from US army jump school in 1987,it has a green canvas micarta handle with finger grooves, and a stainless blade.I got the model 26 for christmas in 1999,it is the standard model with the tool steel blade. While attending the 101st Abn Division sniper school in 89 our instructors Mr. White and Mr. Bosworth chided one the 5th SFG students for having a Kabar on his LBE saying that when they were SF you had to have a Rolex watch and a Randall knife to wear the flash. Both of these knives have been used extensively and i've never cut my thumb on the back of the 26's blade as one guy wrote about,or chipped it's blade field dressing a deer like the one randall=one elk dude claims. Was the green canvas micarta a standard handle material in the 80's?I notice in the more recent catalogs it ain't listed. Thanks a lot.

Hey it sounds like you have been lurking....

Welcome Willis, I'm the guy that said..."my guide cut his thumb" using My # 26. I love it's looks, but "I" couldn't adapt to it. I have a bunch and can stay up half of the night talking about Randalls.I think theyr'e great knives, BUT way over priced. Yes I still buy them!

Glad to hear your'e not a "leg".

All the best, All The Way, Sam

Lurk?Me?,surely you jest sam.Well, maybe just a little.RAndalls overpriced? yea,i guess so,but the thing that kinda bugs me is them mini knives.whats the deal with them things, are they usable or just a way to make money? They sort of remind me of commemorative firearms that are more expensive than the real mccoy, but won't fire live ammo.I like my model 26,especially after I did what the sharpening instructions that came with it said to do if you wanted a keener edge.that is lay the blade flat and thin out the bevel,it sure plays hell with the shine, but maybe one day i'll get around to polishing out all the scratches.I like the fairly thick bevel on the 14,but on a hunting, skinning blade thin is in (in my book any way).

Hello again Wilis,
I think the beauty of Randalls is that they offer so much! Collecting is a special facet not to detract from us users. I used to collect for years. I think the minatures are a special niche. If you saw one in person you couldn't help but love them.

One thing to remember, Randalls appreciate in value,
you can always cash in when you want. Hell of allot better than the stock market. All the best. Glad you "stopped" by the forum!
Sam:)

As an aspiring Cav man, I must say that treads beat chutes and boots for getting to combat.

I'm getting a #2-8" for myself for graduation, but I will carry my #14 in the field. The knife is not too big (for me, at least) and it is well suited for a lot of jobs. No, I do not plan on cutting myself out of and M1A2 with it, but people who think that knives should be capable of supernatural feats need to look elsewhere. I've been told, and have seen pics, of a lot of high speed types with Randalls, and I don't doubt the usefulness and durability of the product.

Enough said, I am back to the rack.

May God Bless all in the service for our country!

I wish I wasn't so old, I would enlist for the second time!

Stiletto Raggio,LPC's(leather personell carriers),boots, never lose a track,or need as many PMCS's as a tank.In Korea the 11 Mikes horse laughed us 11B's and called us earth pigs, back in garrison we hoo dee hooed them and their full vehicle lay outs as we were on our way downrange to party TDC style.Good luck in your quest.

....your sig line is a quote from Townsend Whelan...ya might wanna give him credit...lol ;)

p.s. Mini's? Are they worth it? You'll have to ask a buyer to get the answer to that question. Because, as we all know, any item, knives included, are ONLY worth what someone else will pay you for it.

p.p.s. We bought a RMK mini #25 at the Eugene, OR. 'OKCA' show yesterday...was it 'worth' it? Hell yes, didn't bat an eye...

p.p.p.s All, we traveled 1200 miles to get to that show...was it worth it? Hell yes, and we'll be going again next year...highly recommended! (Having coffee with Jess Horn at 8:30 this morning in our hotel room was kinda cool too...lol)

I'm outta p's...you make the call...

G-Man,I just figured Col. Whelen needed no introduction.Stiletto check out Rick Rescorla's randall on his LBE,in Col.Moore's book WE WERE SOLDIERS ONCE AND YOUNG.Rick was a brit who became an American hero on two very different battle fields. His randall is mentioned in the text when another officer say's if you(rick) don't make it,the Randall's going with me.(or words similar to these). This warrior finally went to the VIP table in the halls of Valhalla on 11 Sep 01.
