I found you as a result of a post on a gun board. I didn't find an intro thread, but I was directed here. I'm pleasantly surprised to see the size of this board. I have some interest in edged weapons, but little experience, and certainly no vast knowledge. Seems I've developed an interest in ESEE, and Becker knives.... I'll hope to develop that interest here on the board.

Former military, long-time toolmaker, and retired from the local VA hospital. I live in a little whistle-stop town, about an hour north of Indianapolis.

Greetings, Jay

Welcome Jay.
I think you will find a lot of great people here, and endless knowledge to tap into as well.

Enjoy

Yes welcome us knife nuts can have a fun time helping you. What would be the purpose of use for a knife for you? Do you carry a pocket knife with you everyday? You really should think about at least having a knife on you at all times so you will realize how much easier it is to live with one than without one. Packages, paper, plastic wrap, plastic, cooking and endless other uses for everyday. As for survivable ESEE knives are awesome but require maintenance and will rust if you do not oil them like you would oil a gun. Stainless steal is easier to live with and supersteals are just as strong like CPM S30V, VG-10 and CPM154 are my favorites. Once you figure out what your use is, figure out a budget...there are 3 levels of knives, production, full custom and mid-tech in between. You get what you pay for and if you want to learn how to sharpen your knife I recommend Murray carter's DVD intro to blade sharpening. Murray is a 17th generation Yoshimoto bladesmith and a certified Master ABS bladesmith and will guide you better than Master Yoda.

Good to have you. You may have limited knowledge at the moment but your taste in knives speaks well for you. Have a good time.
